When did the future become so important?

Why do we worry about it as much as we do? We have to worry about it earlier and earlier in our lives. We seem to live our lives for the last few years of it.

Can worrying so much about some random point in time ever become dangerous? Does it lead to what goes on in England, and increasingly in the US, in terms of surveillance? Is there still room in life for chance, or does our quest for the knowledge of everything require perfection?

1. We have the sinking sense that we are near the end

We are hoping to find some way past that - but there isn't anyway. We are well and truly fucked.

Why do you thnk the Romans spilled so many chicken guts?

Whereas I am all for living in the now, I don't think that the concept of looking towards the future is anythng new.
