I typed the following misspelling into my browser. It seems to be one of those useless "link" sites that have no real purpose for existence. It really had me freaked because I couldn't find the misspelling, and I couldn't find DU.

This is a form of commercial, hit-munching banner farm. Someone picks a popular site, registers various URLs of the name but with common typos, and lets some search-engine/spam generating machine throw together "a site" based on a few key words. The idea being to push ads on you. It seems to be a rather moronic business model, but apparently the co's who do this think it justifies registering all the words in the dictionary, common short phrases, an unbelievable number of proper names...

Another one that annoys me is "http.com", since you'll often be brought there by mistake, as in when someone accidentally gives a link as

The one that most people know is that there is a huge difference between whitehouse. GOV (real white house) and whitehouse.ORG- porn site. They count on misspells and such to get you to these other sites and get you hooked. I like the way they attempt to make it look balanced probably to draw in well meaning DUers to their evil parallel universe site.
