We are criticizing Ann Coulter for being a biggot, then demeaning her using transphobia. Not only is *this* bigoted, but it is highly hypocritical, AND IT MUST STOP.

I am a gay teen. I quite like my penis, I have no desire to be a woman. Frankly, I do not understand transsexuality. However, I do not expect the average straight person to understand my homosexuality; I just expect him/her to treat me equally and respect me. The transsexual community deserves the same.

I mean, when you suggest Ann Coulter is a man, you don't exactly mean that in a positive way. It's the same as saying "that's so gay" in a derogatory manner. I should be preaching to the choir here, but it sadly appears that I am not.

My SO is transgendered and after reading so many of these posts it really depressed me today, until I got to yours. Too many people on this board are of the type that think that the transgendered are freaks that somehow they are not human. That they can just use the transgender/gay communities pain as some harmless quip or insult.

It reminds me of conversations that I have had at work. I'm not out and I just appear to be a plain, boring white guy. But someone at lunch will turn their head to see who is amongst us and when they think that they are among the "right" people for their comment they will say, "I'm not racist but..." or "I don't hate gays but..."

It's always that head turn that gets to me.

It's the same here. We can make comments on DU about Ann Coulter because we are among the right people...our people. It's safe right? And if anyone says anything well it's that "PC Crowd", it's their fault or "you people have no sense of humor".

GLBT people have a great sense of humor and use self deprecating humor to fight against the shit we hear all the time.

As a gay teen you know how hateful those comments are and how low they can make you feel. It's too bad so many older DUers can not understand it at all. I have seen many DUers apologize for using those insults about Coulter and many have stopped. I don't think it will ever completely go away. I've learned to use the ignore button on those who persist. If they can't see the pain they are causing then I simply remove them from my on-line life.

One last thing and I will stop rambling. To explain Transsexuality maybe it's best to think that the body is made up of chemical and electrical impulses. In this complex mix sometimes something doesn't fire correctly somewhere and you end up with a male brain/female body or vice-versa.

I know that I am male but I can't imagine what it would be like to know otherwise. Even with a partner that is transgendered I can not know what it is like.

Thanks for sticking up for all GLBT people on DU.
