On my 63rd birthday - some things I've learned.
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 04:19 PM by Tierra_y_Libertad
Love works better as a verb.
Never play poker with a guy named "Doc" or has a city as a nickname.
The Marine Corps does not Build Men - though they're adept at "Yes Sir" boys. Or, in my case, a budding Socialist.
Trusting politicians of any stripe is akin to trusting used car salesmen.
A frog with a sore throat is a better singer than I am.
Manuel labor is highly overrated as being "good for you".
Having a long term romance with booze leads to unforeseen, and unpleasant, consequences.
Trusting governments of any kind requires a suspension of the senses.
Hair does not grow on your palms no matter what the stimulus or the priest says.
Tolstoy really is the greatest novelist of all time.
Theres a lot of good things about growing old...I just have trouble remembering what they are.
The bosses have their own priorities and "helping" you isn't one of them.
There's a lot to be said for compatibility when selecting a spouse. (My wife told me to say that).
I really am "my brother's keeper".
Lord Acton was right.
There is a reason why some books are referred to as "classics".
"First, do no harm" is a pretty good way to deal with people.

And, most importantly, I'm not in charge.

Good to know I'm not the only person over 60 around here.

Here's some things you may want to keep in mind:

Never waste an erection & don't trust a fart.

4. I'm really not sure about Tolstoy, though. Douglas Adams
did a good job without all the nationalism.

"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."
Douglas Adams

15. Agreed On All Counts But Two.
First one, is that I have to admit my ignorance for not knowing who Tolstoy is. I therefore cannot agree with the declaration about him.

Secondly, any book I've ever read that has been deemed a classic has just about bored me to tears.

Other than those two things though, I found your list quite enjoyable and agreeable!

32. I Had Done So To Begin With Omega. Please Stop Childishly Provoking In Someone's Birthday Thread.
You are being completely disrespectful to the OP here and I'm amazed at how low you'll sink just to get some empty character attack in on me. Some things can wait, Omega. Some things have a time and a place. This was neither the time nor the place for you to behave in such a way. Please leave me alone now.

Goodnight!

36. There Was Nothing Wrong With #15. What's Completely Inappropriate Is Your Seeking Me Out To Provoke
while in the middle of a feel good birthday thread. I will repeat Omega: There is a time and a place for your immature taunts and character attacks. Threads like these are neither the time nor the place. You are disrespecting the entire thread due to your obsessed need to continue your smears on me instead of just shutting your mouth.

Your next reply that will be some additional empty character attack or twisted premise of my words for mere sake of your obsession with trying to bait me will be even further proof of your selfishness here and how you didn't come in here caring about the birthday at all, but instead cared more about provoking me. 100% disrespectful.

Grow up and have some respect sometimes omega, it can go a long way.

Goodnight.

My husband will be 63 this year......I'm much, much younger :)
, but I agree about Tolstoy. Odd person, but War & Peace is an all time favorite.

19. In that case, your husband is a lucky guy.
About "War and Peace", I mean. I read "War and Peace" aloud to my (slightly older than me) wife. Which put it in a different light and convinced me (and, her) of it's greatness.

21. Happy birthday....
Here's some of my rules to live by:

Cheops' Law: Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget.

It is better to copulate than never.

Premenstrual Syndrome: Just before their periods women behave the way men do all the time.

Being right too soon is socially unacceptable.

Yield to temptation — it may not pass your way again.
