1. There are vices which signal great character flaws
Smoking isn't one of them, however.

Yes, it's stupid and self destructive, but most smokers started during their rebellious teenage years when stupid and self destructive are the norms. Some folks are able to shake the addiction later in life and some are not.

I'd be more inclined to be suspicious of people who have no vices, but that would be me.

2. ...
Hear! Hear!

"I'd be more inclined to be suspicious of people who have no vices"

Or claim they have 'no vices', as they are either hypocrites or live
unexamined lives. Both dangerous situations.

7. Oh yes: "Family of faggot fans fly the flag"
A West Midlands family is playing a central role in the quest to raise the profile of a forgotten British dish - faggots.

The Doody family from Wolverhampton has been crowned The Faggot Family in a national competition, and to kick off their reign they will launch National Faggot Week.

"The nation knows that the Cornish pasty, Yorkshire pudding, haggis and fish and chips are great British dishes, but all too often the faggot is left off that list," said Janet Doody.
...
The family, including Lewis, 13, and Grace, 7, eat faggots twice a week, with mashed potato and mushy peas, and will be launching the awareness campaign on Tuesday at Liverpool University, followed by visits this week to Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham.

The competition was organised by faggot producer Mr Brain's Faggots.

Faggot facts
Faggots were called "savoury ducks" in the Middle Ages
Faggots were named after the Latin word for bundle
Faggots were originally made with pig's liver and offal
Faggots are now made from pork liver and pork
Fans have published the Good Faggot Guide

10. That's just 'fag', and has a different etymology
Fag (verb): Of obscure etymology; the common view that it is a corruption of FLAG v. would satisfactorily account for the sense; see quot. 1486 in FAG n.2 1. Cf. also FAIK v.3

{dag}1. intr. To flag, droop, decline (lit. and fig.); to fall off, swerve from, into. Obs. exc. dial.

Fag-end: 1. a. The last part of a piece of cloth; the part that hangs loose, often of coarser texture than the rest.
b. Of a rope: An untwisted end.
2. transf. The last part or remnant of anything, after the best has been used; the extreme end, e.g. of a portion of space or time, a collection of persons, a written composition, volume, etc.

Fag (noun): Abbreviation of FAG-END. (Cf. FAG n.2 2.)

a. The fag-end of a cigarette. b. A cheap cigarette. c. Any cigarette (the current use). Also attrib., as fag card, a cigarette card; fag hag (see quot. 1945).

1945 L. SHELLY Jive Talk Dict. 24/1 Fag hag, girl chain smoker.

All from the Oxford English Dictionary.

13. Nah, but he might pick his nose in private. He's obviously not
suitable for the presidency. He's not perfect.
