The Rapture is coming!
All these worldwide disasters have the radical religious right in orgasms lately.

I really find myself getting more and more impatient with these idiots. One of the few things my mind has not been able to grasp is the depth of their selfishness. How can any rational person believe that, out of about 5 billion people on earth, there is a god who is going to come and take away a few thousand of "his" most "devoted followers?"

Isn't it dangerous to the rest of us poor suckers to let these people dictate any kind of policy that affects all of us? They are high on letting people around the world come to grips with their mortality while they secretly--and not so secretly--revel in the "knowledge" that the "end times are coming."

Am I alone in being so disgusted with these people? They DO have the right to follow their own beliefs, but they have meddled in the politics of this country to the extent that all of us have been endangered as a result. That's not "live and let live" in the spirit of the first amendment--that's "live and let die," with the rest of us as collateral damage in the end.

16. I never heard the term "Rapture" until the early 90s........
I used to see it on bumperstickers all the time. "In case of Rapture, this car will be unmanned."

I wonder where the notion of the "Rapture" came from. And I wonder who started the theory of the "Rapture".

I know. I had it drilled into my head in that Christian School I went to all the way from kindergarten until 6th grade. Halfway through 6th grade, my momma Raptured me from that school, because I started acting as bad as I possibly could. Anything to get expelled or beaten some more or suspended. Anything.

Of course, with that school, it didn't take much to get punished at all. A picture of Deborah Harry earned me a beating. No, not THAT. It was merely sitting in my locker and the principal/preacher saw it. Next thing I knew, I was getting beaten.

I can't fucking wait until those fuckers get carried off. I'll be drinking the biggest box of wine I can find and partying my ass off. And this time, I am old enough to KNOW WHAT TO ACTUALLY DO with a picture of Deborah Harry.

32. Me, too
I recall in the late 70s and the early 90s when friends and I used to say (now a very bad cliche) that the "Moral majority was neither." As I said, it's been nearly 30 years now, and back then it was witty. The disease of certain people being so hypocritical, though, still lives on in these people, and I don't care if some of them believe in their own press, but I don't make a habit of pretending I'm better than everyone else--just these few thousand!

4. Rapture ready has the index at 170

Rapture Index 170
Net Change +1

Updated May 12, 2008

this is the gage

You could say the Rapture index is a Dow Jones Industrial Average of end time activity, but I think it would be better if you viewed it as prophetic speedometer. The higher the number, the faster we're moving toward the occurrence of pre-tribulation rapture.

Rapture Index of 100 and Below: Slow prophetic activity
Rapture Index of 100 to 130: Moderate prophetic activity
Rapture Index of 130 to 160: Heavy prophetic activity
Rapture Index above 160: Fasten your seat belts

11. They don't even read their own book.
If they did, they'd find the only ones to be taken up will be 144,000 MALE VIRGINS. That's all. Nobody else.

Since male virgins tend to be under 10, I doubt if there'll be any cars without drivers or planes without pilots or any of the other stuff they say will happen. We'll just be free of a few more kids, that's all.

15. ah, some more chauvinistic
shit from the old book!

always with the boys! geez--sound like a bunch of pedophiliacs! (j/k!)

Can't say I've read as much as I possibly should have of the bible. I spent my youth reading things that looked positively cheery in comparison.

From what I have gleaned, however, the bible doesn't even have anything that points to such a thing as the "rapture." Some idiot wrote some tracts back in the 19th century and "interpreted" some badly translated passages in the "good book" and now some mentally unstable idiots seized on it as their whole worship, and fuck everyone else.

I see it as a mental illness, and I find it repulsive.

23. It's an interpretation of a passage from the old testament
(of all things) where the dimensions of heaven are described. (Don't quote me, but I believe it's in Daniel) Supposedly a cube that can only hold 144,000 of the 'righteous' who will be taken up bodily. Then the righteous are described and not one of them without a (working) penis and testicles.

35. No, 12,000 from each of the tribes of Israel
12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,
12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,
12,000 from the tribe of Gad,
12,000 from the tribe of Asher,
12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,
12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,
12,000 from the tribe of Simeon,
12,000 from the tribe of Levi,
12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,
12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,
12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,
12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed

Oh...if you look at Revelation you'll find that I missed a step. Not only will the only ones being 'raptured' be male virgins but they'll also have to be Jewish.

22. Yeah
that's it. I find many of these people incredibly presumptuous. One of my best friends turned fundie, and now, two years later after I decided I couldn't take her attitude, I realize that she walked into that sordid belief system because she needed something she didn't have in her real life, and I think that is sad. None of us has a whole lot of security in our lives, but most of us try to find it in ways that don't hurt others. When someone tries to discover it in ways that harm others, regardless of how much they want to rationalize it, they are willfully ignorant and apathetic to the plight of others. They might try to say they are following the "teachings" of someone like Jesus, but they are really digging the hole deeper of their own intolerance and negativity.

38. "Rational person"-there is your answer.
These people are hysterical paranoids who value ignorance and intolerance and need to see themselves on a higher plane than the rest of humanity.
The religious right are mentally ill.
If you don't understand them, celebrate.

FWIW, there were a few bands of these shit heads in the late 19ht-early 20th century who sold or gave away all posessions, moved to special enclaves to azwait the coming of god.
He never showed up, didn't call, didn't write.
The smarter people left, the rest stayed for a long time, decided they were not "worthy", formed yet another religion.

I expect these folks will do similar if they don't posess nuclear weapons donated by Bush.
