Bush calls for new nuclear warheads and DU collectively shrugs
is there something about having a rabid chimpanzee fiddling around with the tools of Armageddon too hard for folks to understand?

2. What do you expect the DU to do about it?

8. Yesterday it was monks abusing chickens.
The day before it was a lack of outrage about homophobia (as it was on Super Bowl Sunday and the week that followed.)

Add this to the list of: alternate fuels, the religious right, reclassifying salmon to remove them from the endangered species list, Ben Afleck (I never did understand that one), my naive tolerance of those who believe in God, and Colin Powell.

4. And you're surprised?
We also have an Environment/Energy forum with some of the most frightening posts I've read anywhere. True stuff with facts and figures right in your face, and do many of these posts even get the minimum of 5 recs?

But I think it's better to at least have the information, whether or not everyone here wants to get into those issues.

7. I think people's minds no longer have the capacity for outrage . . .
we know the drill . . .

1) Bush proposes new generation of nuclear weapons (despite the fact that we don't need them, and that they will launch a new nuclear arms race)

2) Congress approves new generation of nuclear weapons (despite the thousands upon thousands of calls, letters, e-mails, faxes, and petitions they receive urging them not to)

3) "Defense" contractors build new generation of nuclear weapons (despite the fact that the contracts are open-ended and that actual costs exceed estimates by several orders of magnitude)

4) U.S. government deploys new generation of nuclear weapons (hey, we paid for 'em . . . might as well use 'em)

ho hum . . . (:sarcasm:)

12. I think that's what they count on when they leak these things
also, I think there's something to the nuclear debate which folks feel is out of their control or that it's it's an issue they won't be able to completely fathom.

Or, maybe there's the sense that the die is cast and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

Of course, I would try to get folks to overcome these. Oh, well . . . what did Clinton and Obama say or have said about them today?

13. You think he'll have them ready within two years?
And if he buys them from his pals, do you think they'll work?

Actually, since nuclear warheads are so rarely fired, they don't have to work, do they?

16. he still has to get congressional approval for the funding
so far he's gone away without the money, but they keep approving things short of the funding, I guess to keep the industry on the dole until they can get the appropriations and funnel the money in.

I don't think their main goal is the warhead at all. I believe this is one of those deals where you buy the chicken and you end up owning the farm.

17. I tend to be more curious about...
what is, than with what may be....although even that is getting old. My lack of trust in anything is hastening my retreat back to a world of knowns.
