---------------

I got this e-mail a while back. I'm not from Michigan but I like his letters. ;)

Dear Breeze54,

This week I announced that I will run for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2008,
and I wanted to personally let you know of my decision. It is an honor to represent
the people of Michigan and to serve our country, and I hope to have the opportunity
to continue that service.

It is a new day in Washington and for America. The excitement about the first Democratic
Congress in more than a decade is palpable. We will begin moving our country in new
directions in Iraq and here at home by working to reduce the deficit, increase access to
health care for all Americans, restore cuts in federal support for education, and create
jobs, including good-paying manufacturing jobs. I am also optimistic that the new Congress
will restore the oversight and accountability that has been missing for the last six years.

As the new Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Subcommittee
on Investigations, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
The challenges facing us are many, but my commitment to overcoming them is even greater.

Although I know we will make progress over the next two years, our work will not be easy or
soon finished. The economic policies of the past six years are squeezing the middle class and
have left us in a deficit ditch that will be difficult to climb out of. The Administration's
reckless foreign policy has strained our international alliances and tarnished our standing in
the world, which will take years to repair.

The people of Michigan have given me an incredible opportunity to serve our nation, for
which I am forever grateful, and I hope they will give me that opportunity again in 2008.

Please continue to keep in touch through my website at www.CarlLevin.com.
Thanks for your support, and best wishes for the holiday season.

Sincerely,

Carl Levin
U.S. Senator

Last I heard he needed money because he had used his money to help get Dems elected in 2006.
I just can't seem to find that e-mail. It may be on another e-mail addy I have.
I think it was from his friends, saying; "Let's keep Carl Levin in the Senate, fighting for all of us."

I posted all of this to see if anybody is hearing from their Senators about the 2008 Election?
Is it to early for them to start campaigning?

2. SC, AL, and KS are Very Red States. Are There Any Viable Candidates?
There are very few Democratic officeholders to begin with, and none of them think they can beat the incumbent Repiglican Senators,
or they would have started something by now. They probably know their states better than we do. I think we can assume that we
will have Lindsay Graham, Pat Roberts, and Jeff Sessions to kick us around for the forseeable future, unless they do something really dumb.

Maybe Dean's 50 State plan has someone. I haven't checked yet, I suppose I should! ;)

There has to be somebody brave enough to take them on, don't you think?

We all seem to want progressive candidates, so?? Now's the time, imho!!!

We all ought to get going on this!

......................

Edited to make candidates plural. ;)

Meet the Candidates - Pick a Progressive Patriot: Senate

The Progressive Patriots Fund is dedicated to promoting a progressive reform agenda
and supporting candidates across the country.

A Special Invitation from Medea Benjamin

This is an exciting time for peace and justice activists. And a crucial time – as Democratic
leaders seem inclined toward posturing and symbolic resolutions, rather than the firm actions
needed to turn our country around. Without stepped up grassroots mobilization, we’ll get
continued dithering and stalling from Congress.

...even after the public voted last November for a new direction.

That’s why I urge you at this critical moment to join me in D.C.
for PDA’s Grassroots Leadership Conference March 23-25.

I've been at every major PDA event since its birth at Roxbury, MA. And I wouldn’t miss this event
that will bring grassroots activists together from across the country to map a progressive future.

Join us at University of the District of Columbia (UDC) David A. Clarke School of Law, Room 201 Building 38.

Also participating will be Marilyn Clement (Healthcare-Now), Lori Wallach (Public Citizen's Global
Trade Watch), Bill Fletcher (Center for Labor Renewal), Bill Goold (CPC Executive Director),
Terry Lierman (Maryland Democratic State Chair and PDA Board Member), and many other PDA Board Members.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in D.C.

This will be both a fun gathering -- and a nuts-and-bolts event where PDAers can strategize
about how best to sway Democrats and Congress on our priority issues, while building up
PDA’s State Committees and Chapter/CDPP organizing.

See you soon,

Medea Benjamin
PDA Board Member

Progressive Democrats of America is a grassroots PAC that works both inside the Democratic Party
and outside in movements for peace and justice. Our goal: Extend the victory of Nov. 2006 into
a permanent, progressive majority. PDA’s advisory board includes six members of Congress and
activist leaders such as Tom Hayden, Cindy Sheehan, Medea Benjamin and Rev. Lennox Yearwood.
