Two Sumatran tiger cubs have become inseparable from two baby orang-utans after their respective mothers abandoned them.

There's a lesson here for humanity.

10. Ever seen this footage of a hippo trying (and failing) to save an antelope from a croc?
Animals can have an appreciation for life, even though sometimes there is no genetic reason for it. It wouldn't blow my mind if these tigers grew up and never had an interest in eating these oragutans.

Amphibian deformity has been growing all over the world and has been linked with pollution. :( So it's really the humans who were lucky not to eat him, taking a food chain perspective.

a cute kitten and they "couldn't find a home for him". He was always affectionate but a nearly wild biter, and had several untreated medical conditions. But he unlearned a lot of bad behavior over a period of months and now is wonderful. Is Sweetie part Ragdoll by any chance? I think Otis is because he has a lot of their characteristics.

Thanks!

Otis loves people too (one prospective adopter wanted to adopt him rather than the foster I had advertised!), and he loves dogs who are out walking while we are outside, but goes crazy at the vet's when he sees a dog.

47. I think there is something about these big long-haired males.
My beloved cat wasn't even interested in hunting or birds. He loved everything, I think his fear of people was from some early experience (I found him as a terrified stray when he was a kitten). He adored canned peas.
Thanks for letting me reminisce about my sweetie. :hi:

squirrels. He also loves grooming (as I've posted in the Pets forum), heat, and snuggling. He likes to go on a leash to the vet and visit with everyone in the waiting room who will put up with him. My little (half the size) boy behaves much more like the stereotypical cat and wishes he could catch prey, but his bell and the very tall privacy fence in the back yard prevent that, but he still enjoys watching them and pretending.

I am sorry your sweetie is no longer with you. They really do live in your heart forever, don't they?

Canned peas eh? Some of the stranger kitty taste preferences through the years: one liked creamed corn, another barbecued chicken and pizza (I called him my Party Animal--he was the nicest cat in the world), and my little guy now likes Caesar dressing.

12. if they really bond..
then the tigers would never see the orangutans as "prey", only as littermates and while they might not be snuggly like this they would likely never intentionally hurt them. Might bite them in play though, the way my cats do to me and that would hurt!!!:)

22. the rest of the story, they are both desperately threatened...
Sumatran tigers and orangutans are endangered species, threatened by rapidly shrinking habitats.

Conservationists estimate there are fewer than 700 Sumatran tigers still alive, while fewer than 60,000 orangutans remain in the wild.

Around 90 per cent of their jungle habitat has been destroyed by illegal logging, poaching and cut-and-burn farming practices on Borneo and Sumatra islands, conservationists estimate.

http://www.orangutan.ca/node/44

Orangutans Threatened

Orangutans in Malaysia and Indonesia, on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, face a crisis of survival. Bornean orangutans are now listed as endangered on the World Conservation Union Red List of Threatened Species. Sumatran orangutans are now listed as critically endangered, and among the top 25 most endangered primates in the world. Sumatran orangutans surviving in the wild are estimated at only about 6,000.

The massive threat to orangutans has been attributed to a number of causes, including major logging, degradation of protected areas, hunting and poaching, forest fragmentation and conversion of forest for agriculture. All of these factors have left 90% of orangutan habitat in ruins.
