Giuliani - Hero of New York? The Truth needs to be shared.

Book: Grand Illusion -
http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Illusion-Untold-Story-Giuliani/dp/0060536608

...Barrett and Collins' investigation proves an illuminating counterpoint to Giuliani's unofficial christening as "America's Mayor," highlighting the critical errors Guiliani made before, during and after the attack. According to the authors, that memorable image-Rudy among the ruins-hides a multitude of sins: in the event of a terrorist attack, Giuliani should have been directing police, fire and emergency services from the city's high-tech underground emergency management center; unfortunately, Giuliani had insisted that that secure center be located at the World Trade Center. Political infighting between police and fire departments went unchecked, preventing coordination between first responders, and Giuliani's rush to return New York to business as usual (fearing that Wall Street might relocate) may have seriously impaired the health of returning workers and residents....

...This absorbing and detailed investigation examines the day of the attack (when the fire and police departments were in their usual contentious mode), the lessons that were not learned from the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, and the political aftermath of 9/11 for New York and Giuliani. Despite his much-vaunted leadership and talk of his prescience to develop a response team after the 1993 attack, Barrett and Collins maintain that Giuliani failed New Yorkers in myriad ways, including an ill-advised attempt to lobby to change city election laws to leave him in place as mayor and concealing environmental reports on Ground Zero...

DVD: Giuliani Time -

Giuliani Time is the story of the impact this former Reagan administration official and high profile federal prosecutor had on what he called the "Capital of the World." It is a wild ride of political ambition and amnesia, alternate realities, wars of perception and dramatic, even cataclysmic, events. With participants that range from the former police commissioner and schools chancellor under Giuliani, former New York mayors and conservative policy-makers to journalists, policemen, homeless people, artists and even Donald Trump. Giuliani Time presents a diverse, original and poignant perspective on this historical period in New York City and how the most famous event of all elevated a "lame duck" mayor to an international name--a name that is not going away anytime soon.

1. You might want to reword your title
Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 03:20 PM by whereismyparty
I'm worried it will get banished to the the 911 dungeon if you don't. This is important information and needs to stay with a larger audience. In any case, I don't think I would put 9/11 and "Truth" in the same line if you want it to stay in the general forum.

Mods, this is really about Giulliani and his enormous failures as a leader before, during and after NYC's 2 greatest crises.

5. Thank you! But, you know, thinking about it....
Should we go ahead and distribute this now before the primaries, should we wait until Rudy is the nominee and then hit the public with it, or should we send it to Rudy's GOP opponents and let them use it against him?

OMG! Now I'm starting to think like a Politician! Help me!

Whoa! I sound like Rove!

Maybe, we're beyond help.

(FYI, something odd, on the greatest page your original title shows up instead of your changed one.)

18. The Republican party failed on Sept 11, 2001.
Failed to heed the warnings about an attack.

Failed to defend against the 9-11 attacks.

George W bush and Rude HE Giuliani both failed on Sept 11, 2001 and they do not deserved to get called strong on defense and national security.

6. Walter Reed, 9/11 Cancers,
Repubs just use our greatest heroes as disposable "cannon fodder". After they do their job, Repubs don't care what happens to them.

to southern Manhattan because they lived, worked or attended schools there. All those people went into the area and into buildings which contained dozens of lethal toxins in the air they breathed for many months. It can take 20 to 30 years for asbestosis to become symptomatic. There are no cures for this condition, and the death is slow and painful, with every breath causing excruciating pain. THIS is Rudy's heritage.

Tens of thousands of people in southern Manhattan breathed in this lethal air. Bush/Connaughton in the White House doctored the EPA reports of air and water quality before they were made public - changing warnings to statements that the air was safe to breathe. Rudy stood by silently, in order that Wall Street could be up and running within days of 9/11. In the long run, history will record that Rudy's silence killed more Americans than the 2 planes which destroyed the twin towers.

We find it disturbing that the Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani and his Director of the Office of Contracts either knew or should have known that a requirement contract was being used to justify the purchase of unlimited quantities of radios at unrestricted prices, especially in light of the fact that those radios had enough problems that the Fire Commissioner had to order them pulled from service. That fact that Von Essen, Best, Giuliani and Fitzpatrick have never been questioned under oath about that issue and that they have not had every single applicable document subpoenaed, is inexcusable. - Page 169

Despite the fact that the Fire Commissioner himself stated on April 10th, 2001, that he was unhappy with the amount of testing that had been done with the radios before they were issued, in an article dated march 26 2001 in Newsday (page A-13 written by Herbert Lowe), Mayor Rudy Giuliani was quoted as saying, "This isn't about reality. This is because the union is bitter over the fact that the Commissioner had to discipline a few people and they are being petulant." - Page 176

14. "A name that's not going away soon..." Great post!!! K&R
But I don't agree with the line above. It's going away - when Rudy's strange attitude toward women emerges, when you get some real push back on 911, and when he flop-flips on abortion, prayer, etc.

The good news is that a huge portion of the country is now no longer prisoner of the Corporate Media; that would be the portion that opposes Iraq despite ongoing cheer leading by the Wash Post and other Quislings.

Rock on with the peoples' news.
