Today is good
A friend of mine finally liberated herself from employment at a big box store. She got not one but two other jobs to replace that one, which would only give her less than 20 hours per week. What gets me, is that these multi-billion dollar behemoths can do ANYTHING they want to shape society. Yet they voluntarily decide to treat their workers like crap... I could go into detail if you'd like but hopefully that's not necessary. At my job, which is for a privately owned business, I have not been treated like crap one single time, ever, even when I make a mistake. I am treated like an adult. Yet these places belittle their workers every day, treating adults, mothers, breadwinners, like cattle. It's part of their framework. There is absolutely no reason why these monsters cannot treat their employees with respect... why don't they? It sickens me.

1. Good for her! Sometimes I fear one day there will be one big company that owns and provides
everything. A McDonalds/Halliburton/Walmart/ExxonMobil rolled into one. What a nightmare!

6. She wanted to leave on good terms
At first, the manager offered to let her work only one day a week, which sounded nice. But when she was working today she was told she had to work at least 10 hrs per week. This is coming from a company that only give her 13 hours a week!!!! In other words, they want total control.

But one single day couldn't go by without her being belittled. And this was a day she could finally react appropriately. She had a scheduled lunch and was yelled at because she did not open a checkout lane 5 minutes beforehand. As a customer, you might say that she should even with a scheduled lunch coming up, but think about it. They have hundreds of employees at this store. Why would they decide to yell at one person for not opening a lane? Why should a person not be able to schedule her lunch? What if she had plans to eat lunch with people? My lunch time is totally respected where I work, because I work with decent people. Why are they lesser than us? People should not be treated like robots. So I'm glad she said "screw this" and walked out.

Keep in mind this is a multi-billion dollar corporation that can behave any way they want.

They are also told to do work just to fill time. Sweep floors that are already totally clean. Clean cabinets every day that are already sparkling clean. They are not treated like humans. I really wish society would wake up to how these people are treated.

7. We used to have a guy who did a column in the business section of my
local paper. About 15 years ago, when the big banks were really starting to swallow up all the little local and regional banks, he commented that before long, there would be only one bank. And their motto would be, "We don't care!"

2. They don't because nobody will *make* them ...
... in the name of 'good business' and the bloated capitalist greed that dominates everyone's idea of what is 'good' and 'right' ... people have been reduced to commodities, tools.

We aren't "human" and don't deserve to be treated like "humans" because if one of us got any "special treatment" then we'd all expect it, and then the company would start to lose profit.

And the sole reason any company exists, is to maximize its profit.

We're all just easily-replaceable, easily-manipulated cogs in the wheel who will put up with this shit indefinitely because we have to earn those meager 'tokens' to use at the other big box company buying supplies for our families.

N'cest pas?

Oh, and congrats to your friend! :hi: It must feel like a tremendous load off her shoulders!!

4. I worked at two jobs once, it sucked, big time! Worked 9 to 5.
Had to be a my other job by 6pm until 2am. It just about killed me. I lasted six months. Neither were for multi-billion dollar behemoths. Both were for small business owners. One didn't give me any lunch breaks or any breaks, for that matter. I worked straight through my shift. I did get to use the restroom, but had to be right back at my station.

8. I think she is in a better situation
One of her jobs is 30 hours per week and the other is about nine hours taking care of a disabled teenager. She could easily quit the 2nd if she feels like it, but she actually wants to do it. Also, I realize that small business owners can be asses, but I can't forgive giant corporations when they can basically shape society since they can make whatever rules they want. They could really benefit society if they tried, but they make the conscious voluntary decision to treat people like scum, which I can't overlook.
