About "The View"....an idea
The viewership for this program is growing and growing, and the audience is not necessarily one which researches news and information. They hear things and assume that, if it's said on TV, it must be true. I'm not dissing them - as a busy working mom I agree that ignorance is bliss is a much easier path than putting in the work to find out the truth.

I watch the first 10 minutes to get a feel for things...to see what they're discussing and if it's anything more significant than Hollywood stuff. We all know Rosie and Joy have progressive viewpoints; whether or not we like how they express it is a matter of personal preference. I simply appreciate that they do express things once in a while.

Of course, then there's Elisabeth. Oy vey. 'Nuf said.

Anyway, I'm getting frustrated that they discuss a topic in their "hot topic" segment but they never flesh it out.

I'd like them to:

1. State their case as completely and thoroughly as possible, maybe even having links to resources on the website for the audience to get further information. And this includes Elisabeth's viewpoint. She's actually gaining sympathy votes because she is outnumbered and her voice is squelched. BELIEVE ME, I don't blame Rosie and Joy for squelching her. I'd throttle her if I had to sit with her at a table when she spews her Faux News talking points. But, in order to truly enlighten people about how ignorant her views are, she needs to be heard. I believe the more people hear her opinions, the more they'll see she is a robot. ESPECIALLY, if the three of them truly debate these points rather than just skimming the surface.

2. They often get into a discussion and say they'll continue it when they return, but *poof* - they come back from commercial and no mention is made of it.

I suggest they have a political hot topic segment as a regular feature. Don't be afraid of it. They have the audience now. They should make good use of it to educate people - with both sides presented.

What do you think? I'd like to have a write-in campaign to The View to have them institute a regular political hot topic segment where it's truly discussed, not just touched upon. I know there are other View watchers here. Is it worth trying to get others to write in to suggest this, in your opinion?

1. I'd say we should send Joy and Rosie information to combat and debunk the RW
meme's that are currently being aired on Faux, the RW talk shows, Drudge, etc.

Also send correct, factual information about the topics of the day.

Let's keep them well informed so they can factually shoot down Elizabeth's RW talking points.

4. Yeah, here's a thought....LOL
If anyone could stomach Hannity or any of those types to see what their talking points were the night before, Rosie and Joy can simply focus on debunking them.

Imagine....

Joy: "Elisabeth, I'm sure you watched Hannity last night and blah-blah was discussed. Do you agree with what he said?"

Elisabeth: "Of course. I can't imagine ever disagreeing with him."

Rosie: "Well then, here's a list of lies and insinuations he and his guests discussed as fact last night. If he ever discusses the truth and facts, we'll gladly list those and talk about that as well."

Bulleted PowerPoint presentation here

Rosie: "Here are the proven facts. Let's take it one lie at a time. Audience, when this segment is done, you can go to our website to find links to the factual information we're talking about here."

3. Make a smarter viewing audience, and the programming will take care of itself naturally...
... otherwise you can't do anything but cure symptoms case-by-case, while the disease still thrives.

5. That's my point. People must be educated to become
that smarter audience. Many people just accept what they're told. If they aren't online, many will be clueless about the propaganda they're being fed.

I hear what you're saying though - that some people prefer to be clueless. I'd like to think there's hope for some enlightenment still. :-)

6. Great idea but I think Rosie's already pushing that!
It seems to happen daily!

I watch the first ten minutes too, for the same reasons you stated! ;)

7. Maybe if The View won't expand this discussion....
Rosie will get her own show again and make this the platform!

I'd vote for that!!!

I know she'd like to do it daily, but the discussion seems to always be cut off at the knees. I mean, Rosie does a great job in getting her points across and stating her opinion clearly. And WE understand what she's saying and why she's saying it.

But, without the back-and-forth discussion, it's falling on deaf ears. In my opinion.

8. Well; 70% now think Iraq was a bad idea.
So, maybe they are learning and listening? ;)

I think you have to give the audience more credit than that.

The show is in New York, after all!

10. Never liked Rosie
until she came on the view. What's refreshing about her is that she's real, and not preprogrammed and safe. It's damn rare for a daytime show to display that. The other day she finally had it with Hasselback and asked her after all that's happened how can she still support the administraion?

Yeah, she's not a natural speaker on these topics, but she does okay. One of the problems is it's hard to discuss these issues in 5 minute increments and then talk about making angel food cake.

Here's a good article on the subject:

11. Funny, I never realized until I just read this....
that I turn it off if Rosie isn't there. Without a doubt, she's the catalyst. The whole thing would be much more effective if it had a dedicated segment. Heck, MORE people may even tune in if they knew they were going to discuss the stuff that makes the fireworks explode!

Forget Barbara. In my opinion, she's such a damper on the whole thing. Feigning shock and dismay when Rosie and Joy are blunt and honest. Let the three go at it - with Elisabeth as the straight guy (without her realizing it) - and have a new guest co-host every day/week to inject their thoughts.
