Get OVER this "Boomer Angst!" the New "Greatist Generation" is HERE on the Internet!
Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 08:41 PM by KoKo01
We have Russert and others writing books about their "Father ...and Greatist Generation." My Dad (served in WWII in intelligence..too short 5/3 to serve in Combat under WWII rules) and my FIL who was WWII Fire Boat Navy Captain who served from North Africa through Sicily, Italy, Normady Invasion, Newport, Japan, Korea and watched the Nuclear Detonation in Bimini Isle.

These Greatist Generation have been portrayed in many Books, Movies and Mini-Series.

BUT...who is Cataloging the PATRIOT CHILDREN of these GREATIST who are FIGHTING here on DU and On the INTERNET DAY AFTER DAY fighting AGAINST THE BUSHIES and the CORPORATISTS/GLOBALISTS that MANY of our GREATIST (who are gone and going to their graves) might have been PROUD TO SEE?

Those of us who are out here FIGHTING FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE are the LEGACY! So sad that the RUSSERTS and MATTHEWS and KURTZ's and the REST ..........JUST DON'T GET IT! (Not to Mention the Kristol's, Coulter's, Jonah & Mother, Goldbergs,(Jonah and Blue Dress)..the Sullivans, and other's who've turned to "our side" after trashing us for years and the HOST of REPUGS CHILDREN AND FATHERS WHO NEVER SERVED ANYWHERE!

And, they trash the KERRY's and other VIETNAM and now the "NEW" IRAQ VETS who DARE TO COUNTER THEM?

A NEW WAR FOR A NEW TIME! AND WE DEMS NEVER COULD END IT!

WHY????? WHY????? WHY DO OUR DEMS ...ALWAYS CAVE? CLEAN UP MESSES ...but NEVER SEIZE the POWER TO STOP IT ....BEFORE IT BEGINS?

boomers will be known as the screw ups and the spoiled want it all now. selfish and seld involved. Yes, we are fighting here but, what are the majority of us doing today besides shopping and wanting everything right now. There are a few of us fighting and making an effort for a better tomorrow.

6. Honestly asking...WHY do you feel that way?
can you share the bitterness about "Boomers" a generation that spans 20 years and so is made up of many differing parts that are categorized as "Boomer?"

I never can get an explanation I can wrap my mind around as to why "Boomers" (who are really two different decades with multi-views within that time frame) are so villified by younger DU'ers, here.

Why? Remember ...not all of us were what MTV and the MSCorporate Media portray us to be in those "Retrospectives" you see played over and over about Free Drugs/Sex and ETC. in the 60's and early 70's." It's more Media MYTH than REALITY.

But, I've seen some DU'ers who had what they thought were "Hippie Parents" turn so far against them with such anger that they seem to SPEAK for a WHOLE GROUP of VICTIMIZED CHILDREN.

Not all of us were "Hippies and Druggies" but many of us had friends who were but we were "arm and arm" with them throught the Civil Rights and Environmental Movement. "Politics and Beliefs Make Strange Bedfellows" was the "Little Reported" part of the Huge Movement of the late 60's and throught 70's.

Don't let the MS CorporateWhore Media portray some kind of "storyline" for the "Boomers" who span 20 Years!

4. i`ll let history decide whether or not we are the next greatest generation
but i will agree with you - why do`t the dems fight. building 18 should be the war cry of the democrats- they let bush squirm away when as commander in chief he is directly responsible for this. he`s the one who should have called for everyone`s head but he did`t and the democrats let him off the hook. i`m so fed up with these guys who think that the american people might think badly of them by pointing out that bush cares nothing for the troops or anyone else in this country.

7. There never was, nor will there be, a "greatest" generation
Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 08:54 PM by DerekG
Every generation has its saints and sadists; they move history, while the rest of us struggle for job security and bad sex.

Still, having just endured the unendurable--THE BIG CHILL--I can say I've had my fill of baby-boomer angst.

On edit: I reeeeally hated that movie.

8. Oh Yeah! I Agree!
...as a boomer who is rather ashamed of the mess we are leaving to the following generations, I am proud to see such great kids *not* doing what they did. I would also like to tell them that not *all* of us were self absorbed Yuppie Scum who tasted wine while El Salvadorans were murdered in their beds. Some of us helped whole families escape and then we faced charges of treason while our generation sat in their hot tubs and sipped mineral water. I was one of those "treasonous" people and I am damn proud that I spent my time doing that than what they did. See I believed then it was a good American who spoke Truth to power and told them they were doing wrong, not hiding in some Beamer driving to the next Stones concert.

Now this generation and the ones coming up, learn from my generation what *not* to do: don't go on some self-indulgent me-trip when right under your noses there is Work to do that makes your country better ~ not just you better.

My 2 cents

13. Many of us....VERY MANY of us DID ALL WE COULD! Civil Rights Marches
Edited on Sat Mar-03-07 10:17 PM by KoKo01
and Peace Demonstrations and teaching our kids about conserving the Environment (buying only "unpainted, hand made toys that Santa brought...and our kids hated them because their friends were getting the painted plastic Lateist Thing Imports...and then there's the "Breakfast Cereal Wars." Those who kept their kids eating "whole grains, fresh baked breads and foods" and not "Pepsi and Microwave" and our Kids hated us...because all their friends were eating "Boo Berry and Franken Charms Cereals." They felt like dorks...because their parents were trying to resist the CRAP that we were being sold to HOOK OUR KIDS.

I was in NO WAY a HIPPIE...but what we tried to do...Make our OWN stuff...handmade Presents, good hearty , whole grain foods and a pull back from Imported Fake Toys to "Imagination/Create Your Own" cause many of our kids to be VERY ANGRY WITH US. (Like Kids always do)

Now we are seeing a resurgence in "Pull Back from Corporatism and Chinese Plastic Cheap Wally World Goods and yet folks trash Boomers as Hippies.

What about those of us who weren't doing drugs and flower power but were trying to live a Message of Living Smart and not being the Corporate Consumer? What about the rest of us.

Our kids DID HATE US....I have to hope that some now see what it was all about...maybe not...Who Knows... So much is distorted by Media and normal Kids rebellion against whatever their parents were pushing...

14. Some DU Bug thing didn't allow me to Edit my Post...But when I said our "Kids Hated Us" for denying
them "Boo Berry Cereal" I wanted to add a :sarcasm: alert...because while there was lots of protest ...as they get older they sort of come back and appreciate it! :D

My post seemed harsh ...but DU GD Forum Crashed and I couldn't get back on to do the stuff I wanted to.

Apologies... For all the Kids who Rose Up Against "Boo Berry" and "Creative Playthings Toys" (unpainted wood) there are so many who understand what it was all about....BUT...at the TIME...they of "hated their parents." But, then most of us have "hated our parents" over one thing or the other throughout TIME ...probably. Just comes with the territory...
