ADELPHI, Md. - Police are investigating a shooting that wounded a prominent intelligence expert.

Fifty-three-year-old Paul Joyal was shot Thursday night outside his house in the 2300 block of Lackawanna Street in Adelphi.

Joyal is known for his expertise on intelligence and terrorism and his contacts in the former Soviet Union. He has also been a long-time critic of the the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The shooting came four days after he told "Dateline NBC" that he believes the Russian government was involved in the fatal poisoning of former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko in London.

1. Looks like Putin is going back to his KGB roots
I wonder if he has plans to take Russia back to a totalitarian state?

2. Economic and political shock therapy did not work in Russia,
not that it worked particularly well anywhere else.

Putin is the reaction, particularly in the economic sphere.

Why anyone thought that Russia, with almost no history of democracy and little more history of basic western-style capitalism, would change into England over night is beyond me. I have not read anything that remotely explains the west's actions other than complete and utter greed. Naivete' doesn't even begin to cover the mistake. Yeltsin? Please!

What happened to this fellow is extremely bad, but blowback is really a bitch.

This is just another nightmare problem that the next dem president will have to fix. Unfortunately, I don't see Bill Clinton's record here promising, and I hope that if Sen. Clinton wind the general election, she would not follow her husband's actions with more of the same.
