Senator Eagleton has passed away.
www.stltoday.com

I cast my first presidential vote for Senator McGovern, and would gladly have voted for Senator Eagleton as well. The article from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch gives more of the details of his life. He was a great man.

(My apologies if this has already been mentioned. I searched, with no results other than the mention of his illness.)

1. He was a great guy. Too bad that he was humiliated by
the neo cons. The sad part is that people who need mental health help are afraid to get it because it would ruin their careers. It would have been nice if g.w. had received mental therapy then we might not be in this mess. Typical republican know your short commings but ignore help.

5. I've always wondered what a physical toll that episode
might have cost him. RIP, Senator. You made a major contribution to the constant struggle to aid and understand those who suffer from depression. May you find your just paradise.

4. K & R. I would have missed this on a busy Sunday. Thanks for posting.

Sen. Eagleton would have made a great Vice President. There is still so much stigma around mental illness.

I had electroshock therapy in 1960 and spoke of it openly on my radio programs in the ensuing decade.

6. I honestly thought Tom Eagleton died about ten years ago.

7. But but but he sought therapy and you know what THAT means!
:sarcasm:

I was 8 years old in 1972 and I never heard of Sen. Eagleton until 1986 when a news program called 'Our World' hosted by Linda Elerbee did a profile on him. It spoke of the smear campaign against him leading to his withdrawl from McGovern's ticket in the summer of '72 because at some point in his life he sought psychiatric assistance - which surely meant that he wasn't up to the task of being Vice-President :eyes:

It was a very interesting to learn of this man and the best part was how Elerbee ended the segment by doing an update on Eagleton's life, stating that he had a successful law practice and other than that - he was pretty normal. :silly:

RIP Senator Eagleton.
