Leahy helped school Feingold a lot early on along with Paul Wellstone I think, especially when he joined with Feingold and Wellstone as one of the small numbers of senators to oppose the Telecomm Act in the 90's. Barak Obama might be in the future what Feingold was then, but I like Feingold's track record now more than any senator, and he's now the optimal age too!

Feingold is from a battleground state which Gore barely managed to win. With Feingold on the ticket, Gore could have put more time and resources into Florida.

Lieberman of course was one of them, but I'm betting one of his advisors like Carville told him to do that so that he could carry on his "not Clinton" campaign which was a great way for the corporate consultants of his to control him if he won, and help out their bosses retain corporate control if he lost and Bush won.

I probably would have liked Feingold then too, though he was a lot less known at that time than he is now. Leahy was a man I loved for his leadership in standing up against the effort to try and put in place that later to be ruled unconstitutional Communcations Decency Act that was a part of that Telecomm Bill. I knew him then as a man of principled spirit much as I see Gore and Feingold in that role now. Leahy was still young enough then, but now he's probably a bit old to make that run now, and I think he knows that too.

The Dems have won the last four election and even the republicans are saying it...not loudly of course...but they know it...look at Bush's approval rating, other republican fare little better...everyone knows barring electronic voting machine stealing...the Dems win and will hold the White House in 2008...(except in my opinion, Obama or Hillary most likely will not win, but even they have a better chance than the republican stiffs that are running))...either of those two Dems are definitely the republicans choices they feel they can run a good campaign against and beat them and who they would want to see run -- and the DLC will try to help serve them up for them (just as John Kerry was a weaker choice then say an outspoken liberal like Howard Dean)...If the Dems throw up any kind of social minded anti-war male candidate they will win...I'd love to see my senator, Barbara Boxer as my president...but it won't happen...with this huge, gigantic Bush deficit the next president must raise taxes...the republicans will say see democrats always raise your taxes and give money away to lazy welfare recipients (they always get away with this, enough people want to believe this while not realizing the republicans just give that same money away to the corporations and they simply call it subsidies). the republicans like Jeb Bush, Gingrich, maybe even Arnold are all waiting for 2012...look at the fucking stiff the republicans are offering...fuck, even the most optimist republican pig is heaving their guts out. The Dems will win 2008 easily but who do you want sitting in office and facing the republican machine in 2012?

No one man can save an entire country. It can't be done without the people taking action and from what I have seen from the last six years color me skeptical. Why would any man in his right mind want to have all of this crap dumped in his lap? Anyone here going to run for President? If not why not? I mean afterall, this system is so pure and fair and it so easy, right? They stopped Mr. Gore once and got away with it, so do you honestly think they will let him ever get it while their PNAC agenda is in play? And why should he even want to be chairman of the military /industrial complex after all he has been through and considering all he is now accomplishing? He is a man of morals and vision. Too good for this crap in my opinion. It sure is nice to feel all cozy and warm in your dreams...the reality is quite different.

He didn't really say he DIDN'T want to be president. He just said that since the Democrats had just taken over the Senate, that there was a lot for him to do to make a difference in the senate and he didn't have the time to run for the president's slot. And I think that's a valid response. It also means that since time to spend being a senator now is his primary reason for not running, that there really isn't a barrier to him wanting to take the VP slot if it's offered, as then he could do both (spend more time as a senator AND be a part of the leadership team in 2009).

In some respect I like it better too. We're going to need his heavy work in the coming year or so on many votes in the Senate. He's going to need to pick up the slack that Harry Reid seems to be leaving too much of lately in herding all of the cats in the right direction!
