Nearly everyone I spoke to seems to think it's all a joke... Just not a very funny one.

Where's the outrage?

I seem to remember a little bit of buzz around here when the heat was on the accused. Seems like the dismissal of the case against them isn't being given fair weight.

I guess that's always the way in most of the media, but I expected a little more from DU'er's who are a bit more mindful of social/criminal (in)justice.

The answer appears to be that few people care because the students come from families where the parents can afford to hire lawyers. Most people don't seem to get it that -- for a DA like Nifong -- this case probably represents the tip of an iceberg. If he's framing well-off white kids for his own purposes, what's he doing to everyone else?

10. Sexual assault charges remain, that carry the same prison term as rape,

as well as kidnapping charges (for supposedly dragging her into the bathroom). The students involved are still facing the possibility of DECADES in prison.

9. I understand that in the city of Durham a number of people

still believe in her case.

The North Carolina NAACP still posts prominently on its website a long list of "facts" about the case that are based on nothing more than Nifong's rantings, and statements of the woman and her relatives a year ago. (And have never been updated to include information about DNA tests, the changing stories, the dropping of rape charges, etc.)
