Did anyone see the Selma speeches?
I saw them this morning and just got thru watching Barack Obama's beeing rerun. now Hillary is on and just as unmoving and typical pol as always.
But, does Obama know how to speak. He keeps you spellbound even when watching it for the second time.
I heard that Bill was wandering the town while Hillary spoke. I wonder if he stopped in and saw Obama speaking and what must have gone through his head. The torch is being passed to the Joshua generation.

1. Hillary had her moments but Obama
did much better. He talks to the crowd, he doesn't speechify.

Hillary should be worried.

3. I agree.

Obama holds a crowd and has much to say.

He reminds me of John, Bobby, and Martin. He conveys the same spirit of faith and hope for the future. I see that in him.

But then a couple of people earlier on the board thought that Hillary gave a fireball of a speech, something I didn't see in it.

4. Do you mean the evangelical christian movement?

No thanks. I like the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

18. Joshua Generation--the well-known Evangelical Youth Movement

I am concerned about Obama and freedom of religion. I don't know him weel enough at present. His voting record is liberal but I don't know clearly where he stands on the separation of church and state.

17. You can be a christian and still uphold
the constitution and the bill of rights. You can also be a christian and not be a member of the evangelical movement. You can be a christian and not even belong to or go to a church. There are many facets of being a christian. I don't think I am one anymore, but my son says I am the third because I try to live as close as I can to the good part of the teachings credited to Jesus. He is agnostic and I don't know what my daughter is. She is an adult and has the right to chose for herself, and we don't discuss it.

5. Can't dislike Hillary
She's smart. She works hard. She's organized. But I think I came to the same conclusion you have: She doesn't inspire, just doesn't have it. I will vote for her if nominated. Thank goodness for choices!

Obama has not one real flaw and does connect with me in the head and and in the gut.

7. I only saw parts of each speech. But please tell me something.
What did Obama mean when he was talking about the Joshua Generation? I've been a Catholic all my life, but I don't think I've ever heardof the Joshua Generation before.

are like the gen x or the generations after the civil rights generation.

11. Moses got to see the Promised Land, but not to enter it. Joshua
actually took the people into the Promised Land. He's telling people to pick up the mantle and walk into the future of civil rights for all.

19. Here is one popular movement that uses it.

I don't know if it is a specifically referenced phrase in the Bible.

10. I watched/ listened to them
Hillary's speech sounded like it was written by Bill - and had it been delivered by Bill, it would have brought the house down. She had the content but lacked the delivery

She's not the speaker Obama is

Obama's speech was superior overall

- For those who feel the tingle of knee-jerk defensiveness swelling up in their chest and threatening to explode across their keyboard - I am not attacking Hillary...just stating she isn't as good as Obama at speech making. This in no way means she isn't qualified or that I am calling her names...I am not attacking you personally or your candidate of choice personally ...this isn't an attack...it is an opinion...and in my opinion, Obama is a better speaker and Obama did give the better delivery...and content, while very important, is only as good as the delivery when it comes to a speech that is meant to motivate/inspire people.

trying to convince everyone that Hillary's speech was better but that public speaking is not her strong suit.

15. Obama's preaching was monumental
He may not be an ordained minister, but he sure knows how to bring to an occasion exactly what needs to be brought. That was incredible. I loved the way he brought it all together, from his own heritage to Moses to Joshua to each of us bringing our own ambitions to our lives and the world around us. It was just great.

Hillary gave me a headache. Mixed marriage jokes at a civil rights event?? Whatever. Click.

20. You are free to have your own opinion, but Shrub has given me way too much
religion involvement in our politics! I have no problem with Obama, and I think is is a very good orator with many good ideas, but I DON'T want another President who will bring his religion into the WH.

I'm aCatholic, but I want my religion to bein my home & my church, but NOTin my wwhite house!

21. He was IN church
Why wouldn't he bring religion into a message he was giving at church? It's no different than referencing James and works, which John Kerry did regularly when he was in churches.

Sorry, Shrub hasreally given me a prejudice against ANY religion in politics because he's put in TOO MUCH!

Personally, I don't want any politician talking in a Church! ANY CHURCH! It's just the wrong forum.

24. Gosh
would have been unfortunate for the civil rights movement if church had been excluded from the politics of it.

Bush doesn't actually talk in church much, ever notice that?

Somebody who knows how to talk to the vast majority of Americans about real spirituality is what we need right about now. This country is either going to be inspired by the real deals like Bobby & Martin, or misled by the charletans.

on a day I needed inspiration. I only saw the first half of Hil's but it didn't move me the same way. -That's just my purely subjective, emotional reaction.

Hillary was good, but seemed angry, not impassioned. She's gonna have to work on that.
