Do ANY Congresspeople do their own taxes????
If any of them did, I'm sure they would be submitting bills all over the place to simplify the 1040.

I just finished spending 8 hours doing mine and I could just scream! :banghead:

Itemize or not? Alternative minimum tax? Schedule D just for a loss carry over? New credit for federal taxes on long distance phone calls? And that Gawd-awful rigmarole for qualified dividends.

I guess that I should be most upset about my taxes funding this immoral war. But I think the H&R Blocks must be have very strong lobby. }(

allows for expensing tax preparation because we travel 49 weeks out of a year usually 4 to 5 days a week. We often live in one state and work in another along with submitting expenses it is a real mess.

2. They probably don't! As far as I can tell, most of them are
quite wealthy, and if you have a lot of investments, it's probably worth your $$ to get a tax professional to do your too.

Tax people make very good money, not only at tax time but throughout the year.

However, the MAJORITY of Americans do not fall into that catagory, and IMO, most tax returns are very simple. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are so intimated, they're afraid to try to fill out the form(s) themselves.

6. Do you submit it electronically?
I just don't feel comfortable doing that. However I do let them deposit my refund in my checking account. And I do print out the PDF that allows me to enter data.

But, if I've got to get all my records, I may as well do it by hand. Getting the records takes up half the time.

My main concern is that I refuse to pay someone or buy software for something that should be easy to do and free for all taxpayers. If you have a high school education you shouldn't need help.
