Another note left on my windshield yesterday
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 07:23 AM by IanDB1
Last night, while my family and I were having dinner with a friend at Christo's restaurant in Brockton, Mass.

The parking lot for the restaurant abuts the one for a giant Fundie church, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's where it came from.

12. Brockton is a special case
1) We have a couple DINO-bigots for State Rep and State Senator (Christine Canavan and Bob Creedon).

2) Brockton has been plagued by parasitic fundie churches. They buy up closed storefronts and bus in wingnuts from all over the state. Other churches buy the property and just sit on it for a while and re-sell it when the real estate market goes up, without improving the building. Of course, being a church, they don't pay taxes.

So, the end result is much of Brockton is frequented by far-right evangelical nutbags who contribute nothing to the town (particularly no tax revenue) but their cars and vans contribute to the wear-and-tear and traffic on our streets. Okay, sure, they keep IHOP and Old Country Buffet in business, but otherwise they're just a burden.

15. sad. "you are
"sick?" "unamerican?"

were right wingers even raised in the united states? the land of free speech? it was a dark day when i overheard gw saying if you're not with us you're with them - whioh at the time i could have sworn was the single most unamerican statement i had never even dreamed i would hear coming out the mouth of a president.

it's another example of the phenomena that has been growing more pronounced through these years of the curse of the gw administration. it's like this these days:

up is down, war is peace, black is white, night is day, supporting troops is throwing them under the bus and caring for them is making sure nobody ever sees a coffin on their television set. reality is fake and perception is everything; the sage is an idiot, treason is an inconsequential misdemeanor, murder is humanitarian, hot is cold, wet is dry, freedom is rendition, democracy is fascism, graft and corruption are an honest day's work, naked is clothed, elephants are invisible, i mean it is just insane anymore.

but he'll give our wings dream. and leaving you insults and obscenities is polite discourse....

i mean this world is upsided down and wrong anymore.

19. If you asked my advice
I'd tell you to have no more than two or three stickers on your car at one time, and change them out every month or so. In my opinion, you dilute the message with too many of them. On the other hand, with only a few, you don't often get responses from others, and it's the responses that make it worthwhile.

But of course you don't need my advice, and what's real interesting is that my having a bunch of them you elicit lots of responses.

At the moment I have no bumper stickers on my car, but my personal favorite, several years ago, was one that said "He wasn't elected on September 11th either".

What never fails to amaze me is how many people find it necessary to criticize your political opinions.

It's a symbol that the Bushies feel belongs solely to them, and it's a shorthand that they seem to think they understand.

But maybe I should get one that says, "Support Our Troops-- change their bedpans once in a while."

35. I think I repeat this more than anything else
But that's okay because not everyone sees every bumper sticker thread.

Go to a sign company and have them cut up a piece of their blank magnetic material that they use for car signs to fit your bumper stickers. Put your bumper stickers on these, and the magnetic materials + stickers on your bumper when you drive. When you park, take off them off and throw them in the trunk. No more sitting target. Plus, I've heard that they can trap moisture and cause rust if left on too long like those yellow ribbon ones.

Unless you have as many as IanDB1, it shouldn't take but a few seconds. :)

I live down in Brunswick, Georgia and have a few stickers on my car. One says "Stalin had Pravda, Bush has Fox" and you wouldn't believe the reactions I get. I'm pretty sure most of the fundies that see em don't know who Stalin was or how it relates to Fox but it sure is fun watching their faces while they try to figre it out! This is the land of "W" stickers and "Jesus Loves You" types.

I would say yes. I'm glad you're documenting these notes here on DU. That way, if something happens to your car one of these days beyond these creeps just leaving notes, you'll have some investigative and hopefully prosecutive evidence.

You may also wish to give your car a good wipe down with garlic oil. that should help keep these freaky vampires away!

Good luck, IanDB.

I consider it fair use of their free speech.

He didn't advocate violence... unless you consider moving to Canada (and taking a Mexican with you!) to be violence.

And considering all the hundreds of leaflets I've left behind on other people's windshields, it would have been hypocritical for me to whine about it.

63. At least they spelled it right.
Why is it that when I see a W-04' sticker I just think to myself, poor deluded ignoramus but when a freep sees a progressive sticker they feel the need to write a note and stick in on your car? Is it some kind of brain malfunction?

50. You're sort of inviting comment
I have three bumper stickers... I hate your god(s), Bring the troops home, and a metal Darwin fish.

The first two are magnetic ribbons I made at supportyourribbons.com I highly recommend their site. I used to have a Ned Lamont bumper sticker, but removed it after he lost the election to that traitorous asshole.

Like you, I get the occasional note. Usually telling me that Jesus still loves me regardless of what I think about him.

But I wouldn't have those ribbons on my car if I either a) feared anyone or anything, or b) didn't want to provoke a response from the various demographics I am deliberately offending. The occasional note doesn't mean anything. Even the occasional hate filled note doesn't mean anything. So what if you've offended some rightwing nutjob? In good faith, you hardly could have expected otherwise.

There are two unrelated observations: a) a few things on the back of your car are attractive, but too many just looks ugly, and also makes you look a little nuttier than you probably are; and b) if you were honestly thinking that rightwing nutjobs wouldn't respond to your provocations, well... maybe you should take all that stuff off your car.

74. I stick notes like that on windshields
But it's only when they're big W supporters. It's not confrontational, I just write something like "So, Dubya...how's he workin' out for ya?"

I don't normally think Carlos Mencia is funny but he had a good bit about translating the hidden meaning of bumper stickers. A W sticker means "Help! I don't know how to get this fucking thing off!"

Incidentally, don't you find it cute when conservitards censor their own swears? Because God doesn't know there's a "u" in F*CK.

Open dots are most common in the handwriting of teenaged girls.

I mean I looked at the notices and all of the words, at least those not smudged, were spelled correctly. That is highly unlikely when you have ranting repuggies doing the writing. So I looked again and BINGO!they spelled it "marraige".

89. Embrace and Savor notes like that
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 10:44 PM by murloc
Seriously.

First off you have to remember that the person who wrote the note knows ABSOLUTELY nothing about you.

With that in mind, anything they have to say is meaningless to you as a person.

Having said that, it does tell you something very important.

It tells you that your messages on your car are having an effect on people. Even if they disagree vehemently with your message, if they are taking the time to write a note, its having a HUGE effect on the writer (of the note).

And if its having a huge effect on the writer, then that means they have read and evaluated your message....which means that your efforts have not gone to waste. And if X number of people read and evalute your message, then its a mathmatical certainity that Y number are moved, even if slightly.

Failing all that, it pisses off conservatives, and thats always a good thing.

98. So give it back to them.
I have a packet of post-its and a fine line sharpie in my car, and whenever I see an older, cheaper car with W or Bob Beauprez (just ran for Gov and lost badly) or pro-war stickers, I stick a message on their rear-view side mirror. Rethuglican candidate stickers usually get "You're probably too poor to be voting with the selfish rich, and they're not looking out for your good, so why are you helping them?"

Pro-war stuff gets "I have three brothers in Iraq and nieces and nephews who have never seen their daddies. When are you going to take your turn as a soldier so that my family can come home?"

Anti-abortion stuff gets "I don't see any baby-seats, so I assume you've adopted several older, special needs children. There are kids waiting, desperately. What are you waiting for?"

We've had an outbreak of fish families on the back of minivans, but they're always a single big fish and a bunch of little ones. So I ask, "Where's the Mommy fish?!?"

Just little stuff, just to make people think. I don't care if they're angry; I want them to wake up in the middle of the night and maybe see things a little differently.

Oh... and gas pumps. Every gas pump I hit gets a stickie that says :"And we haven't even gotten started paying for the wars yet. Thanks for nothing, George. Grumpily yours, America." with an arrow pointing to the per gallon price.

Stickies aren't permanent, they do no damage, and people notice them.

I also praise cars I like with stickies.

else?

You have a Prius - not an inexpensive car - and you've pretty much ruined the trade-in value by sticking things on it. Maybe the person was an uber-capitalist and thought you were "sick" for ruining your investment.

LOL!
