A few of my pals from my neighborhood and I took a plastic boat over to the pond at a local park. Now, this boat could hold only two kids and the pond was a small, man-made lake, but we had a lot of fun taking turns paddling around the pond. Anyway, we were having fun when a car pulled up and a man in a suit got out and walked over to us. He then pulled out a pad of paper and a pen and asked us for our names. Needless to say, we were a bit perplexed by this: Was the man a cop? Or was he connected with the city in some way? Or (and I expect this to be the case) was he just an ordinary citizen who was angered by kids having fun doing something like wading in a city park pond, so he played "tough guy" and "took our names" in case he found reason to "turn them over to the police" (Hell, for all I know he did just that and the police might have said, "Uh, yeah, thanks Mr. John Q. Public. We'll follow up on this right away!" then proceeded to go back to the real police business of the day). Anyway, we were kids and scared that the man might be someone he wasn't but who might make trouble for us but didn't.

I wouldn't be surprised if this email came from that same guy!

Suspect found and disposed of chihuahua feces at 6:25, 6:37, and 6:48. Threatened animal cruelty towards chihuahua. Could threatening violence towards behaviorally-challenged chihuahua be more proof of anger issues/impulse control?

Suspect scratched neck of chihuahua from 6:49 until 6:56, kissed chihuahua on lips, then departed with child. Was overheard as saying, "Well of COURSE I love the dog more than you! He may shit on the rug sometimes, but at least he wakes up when he's told to and he's never ONCE asked me for an iPod!"

All of these e-mails are sent from the basement of the American Enterprise Institute. They are all composed by a team of former congressional interns, the sons of frat brothers of rich conservatives, people with ivy league degrees, and people who don't have ivy league degrees but whose parents did have the money to pay for one, and, as a consequence, have degrees from the sorts of schools the families of wanna-be ivy leaguers would consider safety schools. These are people who are above average intelligence, but none of them are really people who have any special merit or talent.

Anyway, they spend their days composing these e-mails. Interestingly, they do use "multiple computers" to seem "bigger than they really are." The telltale sign of the fake freeptard lies in the spelling, grammar and punctuation. This is how well-educated, but intellectually mediocre, people with limited experience of the outside world think ordinary people write. They introduce spelling, grammar and punctuation errors in they messages to make them seem folksy and authentic. Because they do know know any of the common folk themselves, however, these attempts are nearly invariably as wooden as this one.
