Tampontification: Easy way to help

Tampontification: Easy way to help (and pls. nom. so many eyes can see and help!)

Seventh Generation, a green paper products and cleaning products
company, has a do-good attitude and will donate a box of sanitary
products to a women's shelter in your chosen state - just for clicking
the link. Talk about easy (literally takes less than 1
minute and they ask nothing of you). And, yes, it is legitimate!

The array of choices is staggering to a non-consumer (and I guess even to a consumer) of these products. I always had to have written instructions to get the right box.

29. 12 billion chemical free tampons/pads each year
is still an environmental disgrace. It's neither green, nor necessary. It's like claiming chemical-free disposal socks is an environmentally friendly product.

One woman uses up to 10,000 tampons over the course of her reproductive life. There are several products that are reusable, and (imho) more practical. http://www.keeper.com/facts.html or http://www.divacup.com/ are both alternatives that cost roughly $35 and the one product lasts indefinitely for the silicone ones, up to ten years for the latex.

Here's an article from yesmagazine: 10 Most Hopeful Trends http://www.yesmagazine.org/article.asp?ID=1433. And another article from salon: http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/1998/11/30feature.html

47. It's not a tampon.
It's a cup that catches the blood, that you empty, wash out, and reuse. It's not only much better for the environment but also WAY cheaper and convenient in the long run. It's also healthier, because only about 60% of what tampons absorb is blood, and the other 40% is "stuff" that's supposed to be there.

Everyone I know who's tried one loves it.

Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 09:38 PM by truedelphi
smelled like Windex combined with Pledge.

I have no idea why these products are all so suspect -
I regularly buy paper towels and they are fragrance free.

And much cheaper.

Tampons and sanitary napkins end up being like $ 2 an ounce.

If men had to wear them they'd be free.

36. No, I don't reuse tampons; this isn't a tampon.
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 08:14 PM by lwfern
And yes, I use one, have for years - I'm a little surprised that wasn't obvious from my previous post. I've turned a few other people onto them as well, who have in turn talked other people into making the switch. I found about about them when I was planning to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail. I found them at the local Whole Foods Market.

Anyone who's used a diaphragm or cervical cap for birth control understands that things are OMG washable and reusable even if they've been "there." It's not that big a deal. They are approved by the FDA.

Mainly, it's a huge relief not to have to figure out how many tampons I need to pack for a trip, and not having to smuggle them around when I'm not carrying a purse and I don't have good pockets, or running out of them if I'm away from home for awhile. And I know this is silly, but I was never a fan of buying stuff like that in stores, and now - I'm done, don't have to do that ever again.

I know tone is hard to read in a typed message, but I swear your message reads like you're angry at me because you've decided I don't use one. I'm confused.

42. Not All Women Can Use Them
Women who have had cervical cancer and have undergone a conization and/or LEEP don't have enough cervix left to use The Keeper or similar products. It's a great alternative for those who want to use them and who can - but not all women are able to.

18. I gave several boxes of tampons-
it allowed me to repeatedly choose states, and drag the heart into the house. So, I hope several states will benefit. Thank you for sharing this.

I sent the link to my e-mail list, and am hoping they too, will tampontificate!

Recommended!

I bought them in anticipation of a period that never came - I'm 26 weeks pregnant and won't be using them for some time to come.

I dragged and dropped. Some lucky woman in Tennessee will now get some tampons!
