KABUL - Nine civilians - a man, three boys and five women - were killed when US-led coalition forces conducted an air strike on suspected Taleban insurgents after their base came under attack, officials said Monday.
The early morning strike was in the province of Kapisa, north of Kabul, after a US military base in the Nijrab district was attacked by suspected Taleban on Sunday night, Sayed Daood Hashimi, deputy Governor of Kapisa province told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
However, US military said that the militants entered a compound after attacking the base and forces called in close air support.
The aircraft ‘dropped two 2,000 pound bombs on the suspected enemy position ending the engagement. There are unconfirmed reports that nine people were killed,’ US military said in a statement.
