Those who want Gore to jump back into politics have started a list of Web sites such as draftgore2008.org, algore.org and other variations on the theme. And maybe a telling sign that someone thinks he might run again is a conservative think tank’s attack on him last week based on his energy use.

But Berger and others close to Gore flatly say he isn’t running and that his attention is on the dangers of global warming. That’s the topic of his book and the movie ``An Inconvenient Truth,’’ which won an Academy Award.

Yes - we need to start now, and the debate is moving very fast (also in Europe).

More big changes will have to come in the four years from 2009 to 2012.

Whoever is the next President of the USA will have some big decisions to make.

5. And the problem continues

We need smaller impacts, not bigger ones. If Al Gore didn't run(and didn't go around the world showing the film either), that would be better. It would be better if nobody ran for the damn office. That can't happen though. Nor can we stop our relentless quest for bigger impacts.

It doesn't really matter if he runs or doesn't run. If he runs, to have a chance of winning, he needs to be able to promise everyone that they will get everything they desire. If we're trying to stop the destruction of our habitat, he can't promise that. If he(or anyone) doesn't promise that, they can't win. Nobody ever voted for the person that was going to give them less than they had before.

and there are already lots of people running for "the damn office".

The difference is that Al Gore is the best person for the job.

Then why did he even make a film about the environment and the damage we're causing to our life support systems?

Unless he thinks we can keep doing what we've been doing, AND increase it, for ourselves and every single person on the planet, and not pay the price for it. If that's the case, by all means he should run. Then he would be perfect for the job.

False assumption: Being U.S. President or global environmentalist are NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

These roles RUN PARALLEL.

Now if Gore is wary of being bogged down in the ME quagmire as President, HE MUST RUN WITH WES CLARK AS VICE PRESIDENT. . .that covers that problem PLUS a lot more since Clark's skills cover economic, scientific, and sociological areas, NOT JUST MILITARY. For me, 2008 has to be Gore ONLY WITH Clark. . .ALMOST A CO-PRESIDENCY in which their skills and burdens would be shared equally. They would be our BEST LEADERS for the trying years ahead. . .given to us on a SILVER PLATTER. . .

NOBODY ELSE, Republican OR Democratic, comes anywhere close to these two. . .

So, we wait and watch. . .maybe in June. . .maybe sooner. . .and I want to hear it straight from their mouths that they absolutely won't run. . .the rest can take a hike!

All I know is that if these two men are not our leaders by 2009, we're in for one hell of a ride to nowhere.

or it really won't matter anymore. As long as the corporations control the GOP fascist candidate or the friendlier face fascist Democrat, what will matter in the long run?

We have to work to get a Dem candidate who is mainly interested in the PEOPLE of this country and this planet instead of those who trade in secrecy and privilege for the powerful few.

4. Gore is keeping his options open

It's true that right now "his attention is on the dangers of global warming", but it is also true that in May he will publish a book that deals with a whole range of issues.

There is no hurry for Al Gore to enter the race for 2008. I think he is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do.

He is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis. Winning an Oscar means that even more people will hopefully see An Inconvenient Truth. Gore will testify at a Congressional Hearing on March 21st.

Gore is getting ready to bring out his next book The Assault on Reason - to be published in May. The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely (whether he runs or not).

Gore is also leading Live Earth with concerts in 7 cities across the globe on 7/7/07 -- all with the aim of raising awareness and pushing for action to address the climate crisis.

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

It all depends on how things look in September. If Giuliani and/or McCain are riding high, and Hillary's campaign is in trouble, then Gore will come under increasing pressure to jump in.

Right now it is too early for me to give up all hope of seeing a Gore Obama ticket in 2008.
