California Officials Question Bush's Energy Plan

California Officials Question Bush's Energy Plan
Written for the web by Marcey Brightwell, Reporter

President Bush hit the road Wednesday working to sell his plan for alternative energy, but some California officials are warning the President's plan could do the environment more harm than good.

The President wants the reduce America's gas consumption by 20-percent within the next decade. He calls America's dependence on foreign oil a national security threat, and traveled to a DuPont chemical factory in Delaware to highlight the company's bio-diesel fuel research.

But Schwarzenegger Administration officials said "alternative" energy doesn't necessarily mean "cleaner" energy, and they're urging the President to include environmental standards in his new energy approach.

"Alternative fuels sounds good, and many of them are, but there's a potential for some alternative fuels to increase greenhouse gas emissions," said Dan Skopec, Undersecretary for the California Environmental Protection Agency.
