Monday: 97 Iraqis Killed, 147 Wounded

At least 97 Iraqis were reported killed or found dead and another 147 Iraqis were injured, including 30 people who had been held captive and tortured in southern Iraq. Also, bombings and shooting continued in Baghdad despite the security crackdown.

Baghdad was again rocked by bombs today. A suicide car bomber attacked the historic bookseller’s district, killing 28, injuring 66, and inflicting significant damage. In the Adel area, a car bomb killed a policeman and wounded a second officer. Two pilgrims were killed and ten injured by a roadside bomb in central Baghdad.

In the Adhamiya district, the bodies of six people, including children, were discovered. In two separate shootings in southern Baghdad, five pilgrims were killed and 17 wounded as they were headed to Karbala for a religious observance. Also, 20 bodies were found scattered in western Baghdad on Sunday.

Ten gunmen were killed, two were wounded and 68 arrested in and around Baghdad as part of security operations. Two members of the security force were killed and seven more were wounded.

3. I agree and disagree
While our presence is not making Iraq safe, I believe that it could be making Iraq SAFER than what would happen if we immediately withdrew from the country. Don't say it can't get any worst, because it always can.

7. it's absolutely deeping the animosities between the warring factions and hardening the resistance
recruiting Iraqis who are mimicking our Bush's pursuit of his political agenda through violence and through the intimidation of our military forces hunkering down in their communities.

provide saftey for Iraqi civilians.
