Everyone Read - O'Reilly Sponsor Boycott Campaign

Hey folks,

I started a sponsor boycott campaign against Billy
O'Dummy. I have a guy who owns west point publishing
as a partner. He is going to publish it in his
newspapers etc. and tell bloggers about it.

The two of us are going to maintain a list of Factor
Sponsors and keep it updated. I made a web page on
oreilly-sucks.com and put a link to it on my front
page. Just scroll down a little and you will see it.

www.oreilly-sucks.com

I need you guys to promote it on your websites, blogs, etc. and spread
the word to other bloggers. He has already contacted
Josh Silver at huffingtonpost.com, and kos, and
atrios. I have contacted Bartcop, crooksandliars.com, and sweetjesusihatebilloreilly.com.

So lets spread the word, if we can get some of
O'Reilly's sponsors to cancel their ads it will hurt
him where he hates it the most, in his wallet. So spread the word, and lets put a hurting on O'Reilly.

Steve

2. Steve, I'm nominating you
for a Peabody award for this! I can't believe how far down the sewer he's gone since he was a news anchor here in Portland Or - and not very controversial at that time. Thanks for the great info; I'm really not interested in giving his sponsors another nickel.

8. Why do I doubt that this is worth even two seconds of anybody's time?
Your intentions may be good, but if you don't mind, I'll check back in six months and see if ANY of Billo's sponsors have cancelled their advertising because of your campaign. I doubt I'll find any.

I got ten bucks that says there won't be even one.

A bit of friendly advice: If you're going to try to promote a campaign, please use the spell-checking function of your software (and maybe take a look at your punctuation as well) when you attempt to recruit people to your cause.

9. Update

I added some new sponsors to the boycott list this morning.

Note to redstone: FU pal, if you don't want to participate in the boycott, that's your business, but don't post your negative garbage on this thread, in other words, shut your mouth you spellcheck nerd. Now go spellcheck that, jerk. We are trying to hurt O'Reilly in the wallet, if you don't like it just ignore us, got it?

Rick contacted Josh Silver from freepress.net and the huffingtonpost, he thinks it is a great idea, and he sent it to MoveOn, media Matters, etc.

Bartcop.com and sweetjesusihatebilloreilly.com have also agreed to promote the boycott. We think kos and atrios, may promote it too.

Hi Rick,

I think this is great. I just sent it to MoveOn, Media Matters, Brave New Films and FAIR. Lets see if they pile on. These are effective because it’s not a heavy lift for advertisers to move their ads off that show and onto another.

Thanks for the heads up.

Josh

Subject: O'Reilly Advertiser Boycott

Hi Josh,

Yesterday I contacted Steve Senti at www.oreilly-sucks.com and suggested we start a campaign to boycott companies who advertise on Bill O'Reilly's show. He agreed. He now has a page on his web site that lists each 'The O'Reilly Factor' advertiser from June 9, with contact information for each advertiser www.oreilly-sucks.com/sponsor-boycott-list.htm.

I will work with Steve to keep a current running list of 'The O'Reilly Factor' advertisers and their contact information.

Any effort on your part to help get the word out on this effort through your network of contacts would be most appreciated. It would be most gratifying for O'Reilly's advertisers to hear from thousands, if not millions, of people.

Thanks in advance for your help on this and thanks for all you do at Free Press.

Best Regards,

Rick

11. Regardless of what the naysayers say, I think it's a great idea as long as....
we get behind it and promote it. The right wing idiots have no problem getting sponsors to drop sponsorship or companies to pull advertising if it offends them. Why? Because they don't do it half-assed. They use their numbers to achieve the effect they want to and they've been successful at it. Meanwhile, the liberals never seem to be wholly organized as one voice representing many to achieve any of their goals. It's time we let O'Reilly's sponsors know that there are more than just a few malcontents out here complaining about Bill-O, and that our money means just as much to their bottom line as does his supporters. We're only defeated when we accept defeat before waging the battle.

16. If you are changing your shaving habits in order to silence a point of view you don't agree with
Well, I don't know if that makes you a bad person, but I certainly don't agree with the practice.

17. My. How dramatic. "Freedom of speech." "Silence a point of view you don't agree with."
Save your pity. Poor Bill remains perfectly free to spout his crap any way he likes. It's MY freedom NOT to finance him that's in question.

18. Well let's face it you don't have much chance of affecting O'Reilly
But you'd like to be able to. What if posts like the op were able to actually work? Get O'Reilly (and Rush and Hannity and Glenn Beck and so on) off the air? Would you stop? Or would you be pleased?

19. I have realistic expectations. I'll settle for some egg on his face.
It has happened before that advertisers pulled ads due to supreme idiocy blathered by somebody. Didn't stop any, but it does diminish the amount of money that go to their pockets. And is a major PR flop.

If you ask me, it's a form of voting.

26. I guess we are hung up on the word Authorized?
You aren't authorized by the government so you can't be a censor. I'm not sure I buy that argument - you do have control over how you spend your money. You are authorized to spend your money as you like, and you are using the power of your purse to suppress someone you find (presumably) both morally and politically objectionable. Sounds like censorship to me, or an attempt at it anyway.
