Remarks by Vice President Cheney to the VFW National Legislative Conference

WASHINGTON, March 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a
transcript of remarks by Vice President Cheney to the VFW national
legislative conference:

<snip>

The work goes on, because the set of challenges that arrived on 9/11 is
unlike any other this nation has ever faced. This war is not a matter of
finding an opposing army and defeating it, or finding a navy and sinking
it. The terrorist enemies are hidden and dispersed, and they view the
entire world as their battlefield. They are determined to commit
indiscriminate murder against innocent, unsuspecting men, women, and
children. They serve an ideology that rejects tolerance and demands total
obedience. It's an extreme and hateful ideology -- and it's what drove 19
men to get on airplanes and come kill 3,000 Americans on 9/11. Their
ambitions to establish a totalitarian empire, and to arm themselves with
weapons of mass destruction are well known and we have to take them
seriously. (Applause.) Their prime target is the American people. Al
Qaeda's leadership has said they have the right to "kill four million
Americans, two million of them children, and to exile twice as many and
wound and cripple thousands." That's their language.

They hate us, they hate our country, they hate the liberties for which
we stand. They want to destroy our way of life, so that freedom no longer
has a home and defender in the world. That leaves us only one option: to
rise to America's defense, to take the fight directly to the enemy, and to
accept no outcome but victory. (Applause.)

...

Wartime is always a serious test of our nation's resolve, and it
naturally produces debate and discussion about the course and the
strategies we ought to pursue. Yet the purposes we serve as a nation are
good ones. The United States is a decent, honorable, and a generous
country. The people who wear its uniform reflect the best that is in us,
whether they come from the inner cities, the farms, the suburbs, or the
small towns of America. As we speak, ladies and gentlemen, members of the
United States armed forces are serving in nearly 80 different countries --
from the broader Middle East, to Europe, to Southeast Asia, to Latin
America, to Africa. It's a messy, dangerous world, made better by the
active, committed presence of the United States. The cause we serve is
freedom. That cause is right. And by the valor of those who serve it, that
cause will prevail.

16. well, if they hate us for our liberties, then the only way to get them to stop hating us
is apparently to remove all of our liberties or kill them all indiscriminately.

Such is NeoCon logic.

Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 02:13 PM by AndyA
You are a part of the privileged upper crust. A member of the "life up here on the Veranda looks good. What are all the little peasants upset about? Give them some cake" set. A despicable bunch of people to say the least.

You are a bigot. Corrupt. A liar. Evil.

THAT is what "they" hate. They hate YOU and everything that YOU represent. A good portion of America feels the same way.

5. And the VFW wonders why I don't send them money
They give the likes of bush and cheney standing ovations. Its an organization of old farts who live to enable war and death and destruction. I hope the organization withers away and dies. There are plenty of support networks for veterans. Vets don't need that republican political action committee.

Oh dick, BTW, I hate you and my hate is rational.

IOW, "They" = Cheney, Bush, et al..

But y'all knew that. :)

As Cheney said, in speaking of himself and cronies:
"they view the
entire world as their battlefield. They are determined to commit
indiscriminate murder against innocent, unsuspecting men, women, and
children. They serve an ideology that rejects tolerance and demands total
obedience. It's an extreme and hateful ideology."

When I was in college, we watched "The Bob Newhart Show" and poured a drink every time any character said "Hi, Bob." Now we listen to Bush's and Cheney's speeches and pour a drink every time someone says "these terrorists hate freedom!" We will be sober by 2011. Maybe.

19. I found this bit quite interesting...
"It's an extreme and hateful ideology" - so's yours, Dick. Pushing the agenda of the "religious" "right" (which, in my experience, is often neither, especially at the higher levels of government), denying the rights of those whose "lifestyle" falls outside of your acceptable range...you know, I didn't realize until recently that this administration has an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" policy in place regarding the Taliban. :grr:

"-- and it's what drove 19
men to get on airplanes and come kill 3,000 Americans on 9/11." - Oh, and what drove you and Chimpy to send more than that number of Americans to their deaths in Iraq? And don't give me that WMD bullshit, because I think we both know the truth about that. :grr:

"Their ambitions to establish a totalitarian empire, and to arm themselves with
weapons of mass destruction are well known and we have to take them
seriously. (Applause.)" - Which is why Pelosi et al. ought to put impeachment back on the table.

"Their prime target is the American people." - No shit. Tell me, Dick, who have you protected more in the past six years - the American people (and yes, that includes liberals - gasp!), or rich oil barons who, oh yeah, just might have connections to terrorism? Hmm? Do tell.

Pat Buchanan was quoted as saying (paraphrasing) "that line of thinking insults the intelligence of your average second grader"

But I guess that, by defination, would not apply to cheney's intellect.

If you are a neighbor, and you mind your own business, people are not likely to "hate" you..

BUT if your routinely stomp through other neighbors' houses, take their stuff, burn their houses down. kill a few kids & grandmas in the process... well .... perhaps those neighbors might just start hating you..

30. How do they know what they hate us for?
How have Bush/Cheney been able to magically divine exactly WHAT the terrorists "hate us for?" Has Bin Laden et. al ever issued videotapes and/or made statements to the effect that they hate us for our freedoms? Forgive me if I'm mistaken but I know of some of the reasons that they say that they hate us but I've NEVER heard of any statements suggesting that they hate us for our freedoms. Presence in Saudi Arabia? Check (although Bush caved to terrorist demands that we remove our troops) One-sided support for Israel against the Palestinians/Hezbollah? Check. Propping up western-sponsored dictatorships in the ME? Check. Our freedoms? Maybe they have some kind of "inside information" that they haven't been willing to share? Hating us for our freedoms seems kind of a dumb thing to hate us for when you really think about it, particularly coming from a bunch of thugs whom are seeking religiously-inspired authoritarian rule in the ME. WHY would they really care about our freedoms and don't they realize that they could have freedom if they really wanted it?

32. Someone should ask Cheney what our liberties are, and then when he names some point out
how his administration has undercut every one of them to a greater level than any terrorist overseas could have ever done. What is a terrorist going to do? Kill some people, cause panic, and then be killed himself? The United States would remain, but if Cheney and Bush rip up the Constitution, the United States ceases to exist.
