1. Very nice collection but
please try to post where you got the cartoons from. It's to give the cartoonists credit and for us to go get 'em!

3. I don't usually do that because it takes forever
But here are the main sites I look at:

http://cagle.msnbc.com/

http://caglecartoons.com/

http://www.gocomics.com/

Usually if you look at the url for the toon it begins with the site name.

As well as the Washington Post and SF Chron. Gotta wade through some nasty con toons at the Cagle sites, though.

Here's one more

7. Thanks for the toons n2doc
I really enjoy the cartoons, I just wish we could get back to having funny cartoons instead of depressing ones. Hopefully in '08.

Thanks again for the cartoons.

14. Unfortunately too much crap going on for laughter
And I tend to go for the toons that have some kind of message that I believe in, or at least think is important to be seen. That biases my postings.
Thanks for looking!

15. I also like the toons with a message.
Some days I just feel a little down and wish the message was a little more upbeat.

Please don't think I was complaining, I wasn't nor would I ever complain about your choices. I really appreciate the work you put into gathering the toons.

Thanks again n2doc

8. The Columbine "school" one was my favorite.
I don't know what made the cartoonist Heller think about Columbine, but it hit home.

Much as you guys might like Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, it was talking about gun control. There was little discussion about what really drove those kids to shoot. (The only one who did was Trey Parker. And I thought Moore acted like he didn't really care, because he had this OTHER BIG ISSUE to talk about...)

And the movie Elephant was worse, exploiting Columbine rather than explaining it. That filmmaker's "fantasia" on the subject of Columbine was a pointless mess.

The only thing that comes close is a freeware video game where you get to play the Columbine killers, which features video clips and music, but that only simulates the Columbine incident, not really taking any viewpoint on it.

The fact all the productions mentioned above wish to ignore is...the two killers came to that point because they saw no hope. Guess what. In Bush's America, there are a lot of people just as hopeless. It's only a matter of time before someone in the cubicle next to YOU pulls out a Glock and starts shooting.

9. Sadly the comic is all too true
Bullying is almost epidemic, and it is often not until a major incident happens that people pay attention. More needs to be done to end and prevent bullying.

12. It's can't be hard for kids to follow
their government's foreign policy. That was my first thought after Columbine. Bushco must be the world bullies in history.

Great toons.

16. No, sadly, you'll never stop bullying.
It's an endemic condition of life. Teachers and parents don't give a damn. And bullying obviously benefits bullies - look what it did for Bush and Company on a national scale. Anything you could name, any political program, any "sensitivity sessions," any pretentious, foolish nonsense like that will have no effect.

About the only kids who had an answer WERE the Columbine boys. That's probably a hard truth for you to swallow. But I feel they really should have never turned the guns on themselves. They should have shot a hell of a lot more teachers instead. Their only error was choosing themselves as targets.

17. I don't understand your description of "Bowling for Columbine"...
When I watched the movie, yeah, there was quite a bit of criticism of the NRA and its basic attitude. However, it seemed to encompass violence in society in general, rather than just firearms. In addition to this, he lampooned the "blame game" itself, saying, basically, that if you are going to blame video games, guns, movies, or music, for the actions of the two shooters, then you might as well blame Bowling as well, because that's one of the last things they did before they shot up the school.

What I got from that movie is that, in some cases, the simplest explanation is usually the WRONG one when it comes to social problems, like violence.

18. And that's the problem. Moore ignored the TWO BOYS.
He used them. He used them as a basis for a film criticizing "violence in general," as you said, Solon.

But the stories of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were ignored. Their actions were a convenient place for Moore to start his rant - and whether you agree with him or not, it was little more than a rant. He didn't give a damn about them or the reasons they reached for guns. He didn't even try to think about it. As I said, if Trey Parker hadn't mentioned them and spoke about an important factor that drove them to lock and load - teenage despair, lonliness and futility - Moore wouldn't have brought it up.

My point is, Harris and Klebold were used by Moore. And their story hasn't been told properly. Moore didn't do it, "Elephant" didn't do it, the Christian Right with their "a bunch of godless gay hippies killing good Christian children" crap didn't do it.

Try this on for size: Harris and Klebold were HEROES. They fought against the forces that oppressed them. The game of life was stacked against them, there was no way they could win, and so instead of just suiciding, they decided to take some of their oppressors with them. (I would rather they had not suicided; if they were still alive they wouldn't let Pat Robertson or Michael Moore hijack their story. They could have told it themselves.)

Maybe the real problem is that Moore didn't have the courage or the curiosity to handle their story, so he just used them as a prop for his story.
