Poll question: Is the Al Franken campaign a winner or about to go down in flames.

I despise Norm Coleman, and I love the work Al Franken has done for our troops and for progressive causes.

That said, Al had tax problems, and the Playboy article that was dredged up wasn't pretty.

What do you think of Al's chances?

1. I think the party should gone with a slightly more moderate less controversial person

I'm not saying we should cave in to the GOP on some issues, but with how much of a liberal Franken is, combined with how controversial he is, combined with his tax problems and other problems, I really don't think we're winning in Minnesota. The only way he can beat Norm is if Norm self destructs in a way similar to George Allen when election day draws near. Right now if anyone is self destructing in that race it's Al Franken, whenever I hear any news about him it's always something bad.

2. Ed Schultz is going to help bring Coleman down. He's a resident of Minn.

On his show last week, Ed Schultz was furious to think that the republican would try to slime Al Franken. He invited his listeners to email him with stories about Coleman's womanizing, and he got several replies. He said that he won't hesitate to expose Norm Coleman if the repubs go after Franken.

So...if this is on the issues, Al wins. If this is one personal character, Al will win. I'm really looking forward to a SNL Senator.

17. I want to believe you, but I have 2 problems with that theory

1. Every poll I've seen shows Coleman leading. Franken has narrowed the gap, but his narrowing seems to have slowed.

2. Pawlenty seems to be the McSame Veepstakes frontrunner. That might potentially swing some undecided voters.

12. I give the people more credit than they may deserve

and I think that they can put in perspective what Al has done over his lifetime. Comedy is comedy, radio is radio, governance is governance. He has been smart enough to do well in the first two categories and used that intelligence to expose the problems with the "common wisdom" that affects daily life. In politics, I think his previous experience gives him the tools to get people to realize the problems and choose a good solution. Even if he has no political experience, I think he will be able to convince thinking Minnesotans that he will do a better job in serving their interests. I guess the big problem would be how many thinking Minnesotans are there? I'm pretty sure it's most of them.

Al has been working hard traveling the state and talking with people about what he believes and what he will do if elected. He's really a decent, smart person, and I think people recognize that.

Al has it in him to be a great Senator.

As a standalone candidate Franklin is a bit of a minefield. I don't know if he pulls of the win but I guarantee he will get less votes than Obama.

Al may win if he rides Obama's coattails, but I would not bet on it. The DFL should have nominated JNP.
