Jeebus. 3 Attempted Suicides today.
I have a police scanner that receives Northwest NJ and Eastern PA. I just heard the 3rd suicide crisis call FOR THE DAY. There have been others this week.

Something tells me that this amount and frequency might track across the nation. It's bad. Really, really bad.

2. The number I have been hearing lately...
Is just off the rails, both "successful" suicides and attempts. There are more "successes" too. No, it's more than just economics, but that is a big part.

But people are just giving up.

3. Anecdotally, since close stats were not kept
the same happened just before and during the great depression

4. And that makes it okay.
You hear of a suicide and people go "Oh NO! That's tragic! WHY???"

"He was having financial troubles."

"Oh! I see."

Like it's understandable - we've come to accept that MONEY is enough to make someone feel the need to kill himself. What does that tell us about our society and what we hold dear?

:(

5. I didn't say it was ok, just stated a fact
In my ideal world we would not have economic troubles since everybody would have their basic needs taken care, food, shelter and medical care

10. No no no -- I wasn't saying YOU said it was okay --
I was making a disgusted statement/observation about our society and the value we place on having money. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear.

And your ideal world is mine, too.

6. But it IS understandable within their own thought process.
They know of no way out of their predicament. Not that it is okay in your mind or anyone else's mind.
It is where they ARE.

Maybe in their own mind they are protecting what they hold dear.

It is complicated, to be sure.

This country has gone to a hell in a handbasket under *, and people are suffering.

If you are feeling like ending it all, please contact a mental health professional.

7. A friend works in a psych ward in Ohio told me that 30% of their new patients are suicide attempts
this is in the past year.

:-(

8. Oh I forgot one more thing
when the holidays come you will have more than just three

Sad pattern, but true

One year Christmas eve I responded to eight suicides, six of them successful

Yes, the memories still haunt me

9. I think this is the kind of thing that pushed Obama to decide to run, "Damn. Now's the time"
The man has a knack for keenly sensing the pulse of America, and he grocks the kind of toxic shit that is coming
down the line, and coming down fastest & hardest on the "least among us" ... i.e. the poor, the minorities (ethnic &
otherwise), the soldiers on their 3rd, 4th or 5th Stop-Loss redeployment, people who can't afford rent, much less
health insurance, etc.
