this is a real TV experience. I don't recall anything quite like this in the Cable age...

8. I remember Cronkite's voice like that
when he announced JFK's death and the guys at ABC when Frank Reynolds died

10. These people really become family to each other and to us in a way.
I remember a newscaster named Jim O'Brien in Philadelphia who died in a skydiving accident in the 80's and how his fellow newscasters broke down on air while reporting his death.

11. I was at the Eagles game when the news came down...
used to eat dinner at Barson's deli in Welst Village Apts with O'brien...well, not exactly with him, but two tables away. Interesting guy...very cold off the air, even with his co-workers in public. surprising given his on air persona.

but they respected him...no one worked harder, he used to work a 19 hour day.

14. Lordy, I'll never forget that
I was 15. It scared the spit out of me to see Walter Cronkite cry.

7. Tom Brokaw did his best to contain his emotions when he read the bulletin on the network
Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd were also having trouble containing their sadness.

I can put aside my own feelings about Russert in the short term -- clearly, his colleagues and peers at MSNBC and NBC, with all of their varying leanings, loved this guy a whole lot.

Surprised that Chris Matthews is not on -- is he on vacation?

12. Wow. Ms Walters is on now!
I'm sure she'll say it very well. I have come to hate her because of The View, but she does know the right thing to say.

16. Keith is a class act, and is reacting like the decent human being he is.
The same can't be said for a certain group of posters around here.

K & R your OP.

Good to see that Keith acknowledges it. Tragic.
