Academy Of Country Music Awards Completely IGNORES Dixie Chicks!
This is just plain sick. The same awards show that allowed Reba to verbally attack the Chicks on stage at last year's show.

I'm not sure who votes for those nominations, but I STRONGLY advise that nobody from DU wastes their time watching the broadcast when it airs in May.

2. I watched SHUT UP AND SING the other night - it's great!
the documentary about the Chicks. Really great.

They knew that country was abadoning them and they don't care.

10. yes, but their comment about the Red Cross snubbing them was totally misleading
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 06:58 PM by Danieljay
in the movie. They wanted to pay/donate to the Red Cross $1,000,000 to use the logo for their (now) politically charged tour. The American Red Cross refused due to its commitment to neutrality.

Believe me, the Red Cross would have loved the money, but it could be construed that the Red Cross was supporting a political opinion and ultimately could have resulted in the loss of donor dollars and its reputation for being a politically neutral organization. The Red Cross has to be VERY careful as to be able to fulfill its mission and part of that means maneuvering through political mine fields, this being one of them.

Personally, I love the Dixie Chicks and bought their CD in support of their right to their opinion. I say EFF the country music awards and those who refuse to play the Chicks. Its crazy stupid.

15. Allowing the Dixie Chicks to use their logo is not the same as supporting their political opinion...
If the Red Cross were really trying to keep politics away from their mission they would have never selected Elizabeth Dole to lead their organization. My question is, does the Red Cross turn down donations from everyone who has an opinion on politics or just certain people who have an opinion on politics? It is important to remember that the Dixie Chicks have never been a political band, they have just made a few political statements from time to time.

6. And the Grammy were gracious(?)
enough to have ol' reba hanging around.

I'm sure some of them will have shitty things to say about The Sweet Revenge of Talent and TRUTH TO THE POWER" OF The Chicks.

But, some of the Nashvillians are Music Row Democrats.

So, I don't know what's up with no nominations for "Not Ready To Make Nice". But, The Chicks have so risen above all that stupid bush shit.

8. The Chicks have transcended country.
Want an education/ Go to some of the country music boards to see how a good portion of the heartland still vilifies them every chance they get. ACM can stuff itself.

16. Ironically, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill,
natives of Louisiana and Mississippi, spoke out forcefully against Pres. Bush after the Katrina debacle. Tim McGraw is a Democrat and a Bill Clinton fan, from what I've read. Don't know why he's been allowed to "stay" in country music when the Chicks were driven out--both acts were BIG moneymakers for the industry. Double standard?
