My state has been all over the tubes of the interwebs today because of one idiotic state executive committee member, Fred Hobbs, who made a stupid, fucked up statement. I've been on the phone a lot this afternoon, and talked to an older friend and mentor, who is a state executive committee member, and who was pissed and said that he'd be on the phone to Chairman Sasser. I'll be in contact with my committee woman to express my disgust, but I really have a hard time with the piling on that everyone in TN is an ignorant POS, when a lot of us are having to fight these bastards within the party while fighting the right wingers at the same time.

I guess it might be a good thing that I'm not working in the TN Dem Party today. (I need a silver lining emoticon) Oh, Jeebus, another ignorant MoFo is on the show now.

In practicality anywhere from an E-1 to an E-3 are mostly ignored by the Nuremberg Standards, which were incorporated into the rules and regulations of the US Military after Nuremberg. Why? An E-3 is not supposed to question orders, and not expected to be mature enough... which is more a statement on the nature of recruits than anything else and a recognition by all military forces that nobody wanted troops going no sir, over anything.

Now E-4 and above, and O-1 and above, need to know what an illegal order is, and to challenge it. Now you need to line your ducks in a row, and dot every I and cross every T, but an illegal order is an illegal order. Some are easy as pie to spot, others are not.

Now Jeff might very well be a line grunt, who never had the honor of having a direct order issued to him that was clearly illegal. His son has some legal cover to deploy... and I am very technical about this, why the song and dance at the UN Security Council and other legal fig leaves, But if in the field he is issued orders that will directly affect civies that are not shooting at him... and he is ordered by his sergeant, and he fires, then he is committing a war crime.

Now, on the less than technical side, I believe I can prove this war is illegal, and I will not say immoral since all wars lack morality. I only need to look at the PNAC documents that prove these guys wanted a preemptive war. That is a no-no under article 51 of the Charter. I also believe that the leadership, both military and civilian, should be hauled in-front of the docket for war crimes, and violations of US Law, as well as International Law.

I hope some day that will happen. But until that happens, those legal figs are all the cover deploying troops need.
