Coulter: The Conservative Movement Will Stick By Me «

Ann Coulter appeared tonight on Fox News (she canceled her CNN appearance). Fox News host Alan Colmes repeatedly pointed out that some conservatives have reacted with calls to shun her from the movement.

Coulter shrugged it off disdainfully, and insisted that conservatives will continue to embrace her. “This is the same thing we go through every six months. I say something, the same people become hysterical, and that’s the end of it. I mean I think the lesson young right-wingers ought to draw from this is: it’s really not that scary to attack liberals.” Watch it at link:

As Glenn Greenwald writes, “Several right-wing bloggers have created and signed onto a commendable petition which, among other things, calls for the CPAC to cease inviting Coulter to speak. Several of the more decent pro-Bush bloggers have signed on, though, at least as of now, most have not (and Sean Hannity expressly refused to condemn Coulter when asked about the remark).”

But Coulter is probably right. The conservative movement will likely stand by her, as it has done time and time again.

Today, David Keene, president of the American Conservative Union, which co-sponsors CPAC, issued a statement which not only refused to condemn Coulter’s specific statement, but more important, say whether she will be disinvited from next year’s event. “ACU and CPAC leave it to our audience to determine whether comments are appropriate or not,” it says says. Also tonight on Fox News, Michelle Malkin, who has condemned Coulter’s remarks, acknowledged her positive role in the movement: “She is very popular among conservatives. I have been a longtime admirer of much of her work. She has done yeoman’s work for conservatism.”

Transcript:

COLMES: Ann, you know, your problem isn’t with liberals like me because I was never you audience. But I’m getting a lot of emails from conservatives, like this one that says: “I’m a conservative. I used to be a fan of hers,” meaning yours. “You’re an embarrassment,” this person says, “to conservative beliefs, to the Republican Party, and to anyone with a shred of self-respect. Do us a favor: shun her.”

What do you say to conservatives who respond to you now like that?

COULTER: That’s how all liberals begin letters denouncing conservatives. And, this is the same thing we go through every six months. I say something, the same people become hysterical, and that’s the end of it. I mean I think the lesson young right-wingers ought to draw from this is: it’s really not that scary to attack liberals.

This is my 17th allegedly career-ending moment. And, by the way, also again, the left has precisely proved the point of the joke — which was to make fun of that actor going into rehab for using a word. This is like the Soviet Union –

COLMES: — it would be funnier if it were a better joke. But Ann, you’re ignoring my question, which is, that you’re attacking this letter writer for being a liberal. I’m getting a lot of these letters from conservatives. You’re losing your conservative base by saying the things you’re saying.

COULTER: (laughs) Well, okay, we’ll see. That’s happened every other time for about a decade now. I get the same thing.

5. the rw bloggers and the gopers that claim to be disgusted by her comments
remind of the the same rwingers that claim they disagree with * and don't walk in lockstep behind him, example-"oh i disagree with the president on many issues--like immigration" ok thats bullshit and so is the rwingers that claim Coulter is an embarrassment.

It's all horseshit, they all agree with Bush and Ann Coulter speaks for them, she is their creation, she says the shit they think but can't say out loud.

14. C&L has the vid.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/

In her first television appearance since the CPAC slur (she bailed on a Paula Zahn appearance earlier tonight), Coulter ventures into friendly territory to "explain" herself. Colmes gets first crack and, of course, she dances around, downplaying it as just another example of her conservative "humor," and even goes so far as to say it's like "the old Soviet Union" because people are trying to silence her — the standard (and laughable) Melanie Morgan/"I'm the victim" defense. As predicted, Hannity assumes the role of Apologist-in-Chief and deflects blame onto, who else, Democrats.

It's nice to see FOX being "fair and balanced" by countering Ann's right-wing lunacy with "former Democratic pollster" Pat Caddell, who just so happened to defend her at pretty much every turn.

John Amato: Malkin even attacked Coulter…

MM: Ann Coulter was here yesterday. She gave a very, mostly funny, speech, and at the end of it, dropped a stinker where she used the term "faggot." And I'm glad, I have to honestly say, I'm glad I didn't bring my children here because that's not the kind of language I would use.

…so it isn't only just emailers, but some of the "potty mouth base" of the party.

15. She like the right's Michael Moore
She will show the right to being neo-facist manics and will lose independent voters. This would be interesting. Imagine. A McCain or Romney conservative who cannot get out the base, but is too polarizing to win the independent vote....or just another Rovian conservative(Huckabee, Brownback, Hunter) trying a dead-horse strategy. Result- center-right states like Arizona, Montana, North Carolina, Virginia and Arkansas will be the new targets for us next year and state that have cost us elections in the last two in a row- Ohio, New Hampshire, Iowa, Florida, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico will be giving us margins of at least 2 or 3 percent.

Moore gets out the opposite base like Coulter does. Maybe Moore is well meaning, but we pray he doesn't do anything to "excite" the reactionaries to vote like roaches.

got them (although it took 6 years to sink, even if they cheated all the way down...)

Actually, their $unk ship is resting temporarily on a cliff. Good news is, it's slowy drifting down towards the bottomless abyss on the side.

26. She's acting like she's the victim
She's arguing that she's the victim of Soviet Union-like repression.

I guess it's okay for her to say any outrageous thing that enters her pea brain, but when she is criticized for it, it's repressive hysteria. It's not surprising that the author of a book entitled "Slander" would herself be the queen of libel and slander.
