Westminster votes impeachmentBy Howard Weiss-Tisman / Brattleboro Reformer
WESTMINSTER, VT -- This Windham County town became the first to sign on to this year's town meeting drive to impeach President George Bush. At their town meeting on Saturday, Westminster residents voted 107-29 to call upon the U.S. House of Representatives to file articles of impeachment to remove President Bush from office.
But the question did not pass without controversy.

Ben Mitchell, the Westminster resident who collected most of the signatures to get the question on the warning, told the town before the vote that the article was not merely symbolic: "This is not a token resolution," Mitchell said. "This can do something. We really do have the opportunity to influence the larger debate."

"I question the relationship as this should be about town business," Barrett said. "Every year the number of people who come to town meeting goes down and this doesn't increase attendance." But Deborah Krasner stood up and said the impeachment question was precisely the reason she, in fact, came out to the meeting Saturday.
