Jenna Bush embarks on book 'Journey'
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 02:07 AM by RamboLiberal
http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2007-03-05-jenna-bush_N.htm

Jenna Bush, in a rare interview, says her forthcoming book for teens — about a 17-year-old single mother in Panama who is living with HIV — will end with a "call to action."

HarperCollins announces today that it's publishing Bush's Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope this fall. It will be illustrated with photographs by Mia Baxter, a former classmate of Bush's at the University of Texas.

The president's daughter, 25, says the book is not political. It's aimed at "getting kids thinking and involved," Bush said Monday by phone from Panama, where she has worked since September as an unpaid intern for UNICEF.

Bush, a former public school teacher in Washington, D.C., says: "I'm aware that not all kids can pick up and fly to Panama. I'm very lucky."

But, Bush says, "there's so much they can do" to deal with issues of "exclusion" — from research on HIV discrimination to "inviting new kids to sit with them in the cafeteria."

Bush: In Panama, completing a nine-month UNICEF internship.

I can't knock her on this one. I'm willing to see if she does anything with this or will it be back to party hardy.

12. This will never be that lucrative. Please, get a grip on reality.
She has pots of money waiting for her. This is not about the $$. As spoiled as one might think she is...I say, hmmm....

Perhaps she is smarter, as in a better thinker, than both her parents. That is what keeps us all moving forward, we are not always like our parents.

Let us hope that is true in this case.

3. Perhaps she can rise above her beginnings and make something of herself. . .
plenty of others have overcome more difficult circumstances, though few have had to travel so far. . . I wish her well.

6. A former "public school teacher"

http://educationintexas.blogspot.com/2006/06/embarrassing-problem-for-bush.html

Puuuleaz! She taught in a charter school (Washington’s Mount Pleasant charter school) that had absolutely no requirements for teachers and if you think the local administrator's or coach's wife gets special treatment can you imagine what the president's daughter got?

Apparently her job wasn't too taxing. According to the article:

. . .Jenna and a fellow instructor oversaw a class of third-graders being taught in both English and Spanish.

In other words, there was an experienced teacher doing the REAL work while Jenna played at being "teacher".

Of course, one only need search the internet a bit to find the REAL reason for Jenna's departure from the DC public school scene, her school has been rated in need of improvement for the past school year. Since her school was not required to provide any specifics about its test scores and state standards, you'll have to scroll WAAAAAY down to find out the federal govt. is on its case.

Then there's the gig she didn't get because she wasn't qualified.

Who got left behind by No Child Left Behind? Jenna Bush.

http://hughesforamerica.typepad.com/hughes_for_america/2005/01/who_got_left_be.html

As reported by the Washington Post and Philadelphia Daily News, Jenna (as the Post reported last December) was going to teach in a low-income neighborhood in the Washington area at the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School. Good for her, if she's qualified, then more power to her.

The problem is just that: She isn't qualified, at least under President Bush's No Child Left Behind act. The Post's Reliable Source posited that Jenna Bush has actually started work as a teacher's aide, not as a teacher, as she didn't have the qualifications to helm a classroom under the act's strict guidelines.

So the Reliable Source's Richard Leiby spoke with the charter school's executive director, Linda Moore, after the word spread that Jenna had begun work as a teacher's assistant. "Jenna Bush is not employed as a teacher at the school," Moore told Leiby. So was Jenna an assistant teacher there? "I can't confirm that."

Enter No Child Left Behind.

Moore told Leiby that there are "some very strict requirements about who can be hired and what their credentials have to be, and they do apply to charter schools."

8. Good for her.
Let's encourage her to spend her next 9 months in Nicaragua, the next 10 months in Guatemala, and the next 11 months in Timor. Then she'll be ready for a year in the Darfur region.

10. Two Minutes' Hate! Two Minutes' Hate!
Good god, people, her father is the ratbag, not her.

Or do you believe that she "bears the taint," in the words of National Review Übergruppführer John Derbyshire, who called for Chelsea Clinton's death back in the day?

She's doing a lot more for the world than ANY child of a wingnut of whom I'm aware. Most of them are party brats from age 11 to 45. Jenna, to her credit, was happy with a mere decade-long party phase.

If she becomes a ratbag herself, then fine, have at her. But this ain't it.

Working for UNICEF or dining with the President on behalf of daddy?

This is a favorite Bush M.O. Pretend to be doing humble public service, while working at nefarious activities behind the scenes.

15. This smells of P.R.
I hope I am wrong but a "former teacher" @ 25 and her behavior with
her twin when they got asked to leave a country in S. America for their
behavior makes me highly suspicious.

Again I hope I am wrong and that Jenna really does some good work
for people who need it so badly

21. It'll Sell Right Up There With The Mary Cheney Classic
Must read at the next CPAC Book Club...after which there will be a discussion led by David Horowitz followed by a book burning. The first 50 Texas Rangers who buy the book will then recieve a special picture of Jenna's dad looking out the window of AF1 on 9/11 as he runs like a scared puppy to Omaha. The book tour will be sponsored by Coors...drink responsibly.
