Keith debunked this last night, but it's FUN, Tweety loud, fighting at G.E.'s memorial service
It's Tweety SAYING he was "fighting" (orally), a QUOTATION made to this (yes, MURDOCH, wingnut, yada yada) gossiper.

CABLE GUYS LUST FOR TIM'S JOB

.... According to our spy, "Chris, with his loud voice, was going over a pitch for Tim's job. He was saying, 'You know, Tim's thing was this, and my thing is that.' It was unbelievably tacky."

But Matthews told Page Six that the man he was with was real-estate developer Bob Monahan and that they were talking about a speech Matthews will give soon to a group of mayors in Gettysburg, Pa.

"We started fighting about it. He wanted me to talk about block grants. I want to give my general political speech," Matthews said. "I swear to God that's what happened." ....

Meanwhile, Matthews' MSNBC cable cohort Olbermann, who was also at the memorial, is "threatening to quit if he isn't installed as Russert's replacement," another insider said. "I know, it sounds ludicrous, but, then, Keith Olbermann is ludicrous."

A rep for MSNBC said, "All of this is utterly untrue."

Russert himself wanted Chuck Todd, the NBC News political director he hired, to succeed him, said one source, who added that MSNBC hosts don't stand a chance of landing "Meet the Press." The insider said, "They're cable. They're far too partisan. They have no gravitas. If gravitas is eight letters, they're about seven letters short."

1. The thing I have come to dislike about Olbermann is two fold
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 01:26 PM by truedelphi
First of all - he constantly promotes CIA hack Bruce Fineman of Newsweek. Fineman is responsible for some real hatchet jobs against Kerry in the weeks leading up to the 2004 stolen election.

Okay, then besides that, Olbermann overuses his outrage.

When he is outraged with total contempt and scorn for Bush, I am willing to applaud,.

But that sentiment seems to be the controlling force in his life. He has used his outrage over Clinton's continued bid for the Presidency, and also for those of us who want people to realize that Russert was a sellout.

I am not, God help me, a Clinton supporter. But her continuing her bid for the Presidency WAS NOT the equivalent of BUsh lying us into a war, and becoming the heinous war criminal that he and his top henchmen and women have become.

Nor do those of us who are trying to educate people about Russert and the Big Media's success in "Mr Rogering the role of Goebbels" a bad group of people. We have to attack the talking points when they occur - we are learning the hard way that if we wait six days, weeks or months, we are told that it is the past and that we need to get over it.

Outrage that is overused is inappropriate and becomes annoying. A journalist needs to be dispassionate. Except for the FEW moments in time when passion might affect change.

Cronkite shedding a tear when announcing the death of Kennedy added to his report. If the man had cried every single week after that over minor tragedies, he would have become a joke!! Olbermann needs to grow up and learn that varying shades of emotion are available when it comes to expressing disapproval.

And that the best way for a journalist to express annoyance or contempt, its to research and present breaking news.

EDITED: for the comments on Cronkite and the last sentence addition

2. That's bothering me, too
I find myself watching his performance and not paying attention to what he says. In short, he loses me. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

He'd do well to emulate his hero, Edward R. Murrow, who delivered his brilliant and insightful words with dispassion and simple clarity.

But, the NY Post is still a rag.............

3. Thanks for clarifying my issues with Keith.
I, too, find his "outrage" cloying. He went over the edge when he did that with Hillary, and totally lost me at that point. I was not a Hillary supporter, but, as you say, she is NOT George W. Bush. For him to react to her in that way was just outrageous, and really put the beat-down on his credibility.

Internet posters are free to criticize anyone they wish. The honest and detailed listings of Tim Russert's many failings as a "journalist" were perfectly appropriate and timely. If Keith wants to be offended by something that was posted on DU, or Kos, or wherever, he should stop trolling the sites for good material for his program. It works two ways, Keith.
