Too much fall out from pardoning Scooter. He'll have to take his medicine ... that, or roll over on a higher up.

public perception - they have thumbed their noses at it for the last 4 years. libby will not roll over because he knows he will be pardoned. He will be given a job by some Korporate Kontributing Krony who thinks these kriminals have been treated poorly. rich white men will take care of it.

9. They don't care about public perception except... |

where it will cost the GOP an election. A Libby pardon would crush the GOP in '08. Guilt by association. Not that the GOP isn't screwed already in '08, but I doubt the party will want its chances hurt even worse.

4. And he will be, count on it. |

Of course, his next step is to try to stay out of jail on appeal for as long as possible. A successful strategy for his defense is to keep him out of jail until he can get his dispensation from King George.

5. If they were gonna pardon you Scooter ya'd think they'd do it before the trial |
|
After all it exposed about the secret workings of Cheney's office. It's not like he's a very open politician. I wouldn't count on that pardon.

10. the talking heads all say that Bush is focused on his legacy now |
|
I doubt he'd risk it to save Scooter. He can't pardon him before the election, and pardoning him on his last day in office has nothing in it for him. And if relations are as strained between Bush and Cheney as we've been hearing lately, he's not going to risk his own legacy to keep Cheney from getting busted.
