3. I Think He'll Do It Immediately, Just to Rub Our Noses In It
That has been his style so far.

5. It just might be a function of how long he stays out of jail. Or if he does.
Toss 'go directly to jail/you can appeal from prison' into the equation, and everything is up for grabs.

If he doesn't go to a real sweet Club Fed, one of those ones with swimming and tennis that you find on Air Force bases, for example, and instead, the conditions are a bit austere and onerous, conducive to things like 'cooperation in exchange for sentence reduction' then maybe Bush would do it sooner.

Quite frankly, if I wanted to get Libby out of the clutch of a prosecutor who might lean on him, I'd pardon him on a Thursday, and ensure that CHENEY RESIGNS is the headline on Friday. Mix it all up, so the lead story is CHENEY, not a suspicious pardon.

That way, the whole pardon/resignation would play like a quid pro quo--"Ok, Dick, I will pardon 'your' boy (even though he worked for BOTH of them), but you have to go..." Then, they'd blame everything short of Nahn Wun Wun--the war, Plamegate, Walter Reed, you name it, on Big Dick. He's such an irrascible, hated shithead now anyway that it wouldn't make any difference. The Monkey would happily throw Big Dick under the bus if thought it would protect his "legacy."

6. Remember that a pardon admits guilt
If Libby gets a presidential pardon, he is still a convicted felon, right?

Libby is better off appealing the verdict first, because it could get thrown out, then he could claim innocence.

If Bush pardons him, does the appeals process stop? It seems to me that one wouldn't want the pardon except as a last resort, because it still leaves you with a conviction.

There will be no pardon until Christmas 08 or Bush's last day in office, whichever comes first.

7. No, the pardon wipes out the 'convicted felon' aspect. Acceptance indicates you acknowledge guilt.
When you're pardoned, the slate is wiped clean. http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/pardons0a.htm
