How can the world stand idly by?
We've seen it over and over again!

How can the world stand idly by when corrupt governments slaughter their own people?!?!
Cambodia
Somalia
Ethiopia
the former Yugoslavia
Rwanda
Zimbabwe
or even when they don't outright slaughter them, they allow them to die a slow miserable death, i.e.: Myanmar typhoon!

are not ALL people entitled to live in peace, safety & the pursuit of happiness?

It is a crime for a strong man to sit idly by and witness harm against a weak man, and do nothing!!!

1. How can the US stand idly by while 'we'
destroy a country? Aren't Iraqis entitled to live in peace, safety & to pursue happiness? Add this to your list.

2. Because we help them do it
And we slaughter our own people too. It's not an anomaly.

7. We help them do it???
We were/are not allies with any of these countries. In fact these countries despise the US.

9. Tyrants liberating people from tyrants.
Any business done in these countries?
By the US or Europe?

You can't teach a people how to rise up against tyranny when you don't know how to do it yourself.
Can't liberate people when you're nothing but another tyrannical gov't.

The last thing ANY of those countries need is Blackwater entering the picture.

3. It's always been that way, and it always will be that way.
Authoritarian dominators will always rise to the top, and their little authoritarian, fearful followers will keep them propped up. Ignorance and stupidity will always triumph, because the intelligent and wise are never willing to kill indiscriminately for their beliefs.

It sucks, but I don't think it will change until every last human being has died.

24. There's a lot of truth in this...
in general, the people who want to be leaders are the last people who should be.

However, there are exceptions: reasonable leaders do get elected and stay in power. Perhaps we should try to find out more about what makes the difference. Why did South Africa get Mandela while Zimbabwe got Mugabe? Why does Germany have mostly reasonable governments nowadays, while 70 years ago it had Hitler?

5. Unlawful occupation
I would agree that Iraqis have a human right to live in peace,
and not be driven to early deaths by an unlawful American
presence.

6. We need a proper government in the US which can sort out this mess
strange how the US can initiate coups and attacks when there is oil, drugs involved but cannot make rogue governments feed their people?

US to call for UN action against Zimbabwe

Jun 28, 12:47 AM (ET)

By MATTHEW LEE (AP)

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - The United States plans to introduce a U.N. resolution next week calling for tough action against Zimbabwe's government, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Saturday, to prevent the country's leaders from further abusing its population.
Speaking with reporters on her way to Seoul, South Korea, Rice said the U.S. and Britain could present the resolution to the U.N. Security Council as early as Monday.
The action is in response to the widely denounced runoff election in which Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe is accused of using violence to coerce people to vote for him.
"It is time for the international community to act," Rice said. "It is hard to imagine that anybody could fail to act given what we're all watching on the ground in Zimbabwe.
"There needs to be a really strong message from the international community about what has happened there," she said.
A proposed resolution is being drafted and officials said it would probably be circulated informally over the weekend and presented to the full council Monday.
The U.S. currently holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council.
Rice declined to specify what will be in the proposed resolution but said there "has to be a deterrent effect from the international community at this point to (halt) further intimidation, further violence against the population."
"We will have to look to what other measures are available both to the U.S. and the international community more broadly to send a strong message of deterrence," she said, adding that the U.S. would "use everything in our power in terms of appropriate sanctions."

If the UN had any backbone, which we know it doesn't, they would hold Mugabe responsible!!!

18. All I read is anti-US rants
No one individual has written about these ruthless dictators and what they've done to their people. Not one person has discussed the million plus people slaughtered in Cambodia. The million slaughtered in Rwanda. The hundreds of thousands in the former Yugoslavia. The 100,000s of people killed in Iraq by Saddam or the 100,000s killed during the UN food embargo.

You show no concern for these people. Have no answers or even attempt to suggest solutions to this carnage.

All I read is "AMERICA is the root of all evil in the world." You wonder why some look at this site as being filled with extremist, America hating individuals? Can you put forth any constructive ideas or are simply filled with so much anger and rage that all you can do is spitout this vile, hateful rant.

Sad.

20. .

Everything has to be about Bush around here. Are we concerned only for the people being killed by *? Don't the enemies of * have victims too? Shouldn't we speak up for people even when it doesn't help to promote our anti-U.S.-gov opinions?

21. Stop drinking the kool-aide!!!!
Bush is the only "evil" in this world.

People need to put the kool-aide down and realize they're some seriously evil dictators out there that need to be confronted.

Many/all of these dictators were in power before "*" became President. Some were in power when Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Papa "*", Clinton were Presidents. This is not about the individual who happens to be President, this is about the USA taking a leading role and leading the UN (or NATO if need be) to confront the evil. You're absence of concern for the abused, accept if it's an opportunity to attack "*", highlights your lack of humanity!

You're more blindly caught up in the 'politics' than true issues! Blinding following one party or the other is how the 'powers' wish things to be! You get caught up in the BS and ignore issues that truly matter.

I posted an earlier topic titled "Congress for Sale" (I don't know how to cross-link, or if it's even possible). The DailyKos is ranting a recent SCOTUS decision involving campaign finance reform and about how the Democrats will now be hard pressed to compete against the "Republican Millionaires" while ignoring obvious truths. Read the links in the website titled, http://www.opensecrets.org

Put the kool-aide down and back away from the table!!!!!!

23. Sorry......
I just got back from partying at the St.Petersburg, FL Pride Parade and read you post. I probably should not post here after enjoying a few :-).
I misread you're post as 'sarcasm'.

Remove all the "You" and "You're" and redirect them to all the earlier posters who were ranting against America.

25. Not in general, IMO.
There have been a number of threads here about Zimbabwe; Burma; Darfur; etc.

I admit that there are often one or two people on a thread who seem to be 'Westernophobes' who think that non-Western dictators are vilified innocents (just as prejudiced an attitude as its extreme opposite, and often ends up harming the very same people). However, they are definitely in the minority. Most posts that I've seen are hostile to these vicious dictators.

Unfortunately, it seems much harder to find a way of dealing with these bastards. The UN, though better than nothing, is often pretty ineffective; and individual countries often either have no influence, don't care, are in the dictators' pockets, or when they do intervene, do so in the wrong ways or for the wrong reasons.
