Faggot a schoolyard taunt? If one of my kids used this taunt, I'd ground the hell out of them!

My kids are 13, 12 and 10 and they learned at a very early age that the word Faggot is extremely derogatory and is in the same class as the N Word. They know that if I ever hear them say that word, they better pray that I'm in a good mood and that my grounding will be light---er meaning a couple of days instead of a week.

Oh I do catch them every once in a while say---"that's so Gay" and my reply is that too is offensive and they should refrain from saying that type of thing. I cut them a bit of slack when they say it because I know that they have no malice in their heart when they do say something like that.

But Faggot--- that is pure malice with the intention of hurting someone.

My kids aren't perfect and with the typical peer pressure in the outside world, they will make mistakes---- I only hope that what I teach them today will stay with them the rest of their lives and that they pass it on to their kids, etc.

3. My kids would never use that word cuz we've talked about that issue..
and how words like that hurt. It comes from the parents.. not necessarily using the word, but not making it clear.. every day.. that you don't hurt other people that way.

7. It's funny---but my bro and sis in law are arch conservatives
and I know for a fact that if one of my nieces or nephews used that word, my sis in law would knock the shit out of them.

6. Even if it was a "schoolyard taunt" Isn't it really beneath the dignity

of the defacto spokesperson of a whole political wing? Come on, these clowns are nuttier than they even make themselves out to be. Childish name calling, how stupid can you get?

8. Oh, if we could see and hear everything our kids say and do...
We all teach our kids the best we can and hope they take the lessons to heart, but when they are among their peers those lessons can just go out the window. Some kids do what their friends do or say what they say to be a part of the crowd. Some don't. We all want our kids to be the ones to stand up to their peers and tell them that wrong is wrong. I hope my kids and yours are a part of that group.

Hubby told me a couple of days ago when he played football in high school, the locker room was where they cut loose. Whether it was racist, sexist or whatever, they were as raunchy and debasing, as guys who consider themselves macho, could get. He called it the disease of immature manliness.
