Two weeks later and people's homes are
still under water. Fields still six feet under water and these fuggers are nation building overseas -I mean nation destroying while looting the treasury.

But then, they'll just take your money and you'll be no better off.

The best thing for the country would be to exile Bushco...FOREVER.

"Really wish the republicon government could help you out, but we drowned that puppy in a freaking bathtub. As planned. Smirk. See you later, maybe, after my luxurious month of kicking back at the Imperial Pig Farm Upon Crawford. In the meantime, enjoy another shot of our republicon conservative compassion. Smirk."

5. CR - My brother-in-law evacuated but has been back in for some time
- his basement was full of water but that was the extent. Two blocks from him they were not so lucky. Cleaning up is a smelly process and the longer it takes the more chance there is of mold.

6. Unfortunately, that's the way things are with floods
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 06:00 PM by SoCalDem
Until the water "goes away", there's little that anyone can do.

The seeds for this (and most disasters) were sown decades ago.. Building levees, and then allowing unscrupulous developers to build build build all around them, is a recipe for a future disaster..

There's a reason why land around rivers was "unusually fertile".. That reason is that for millennia, rivers have been "vomiting" nutrients on that ground..over and over and over..

Humans think that because we can "build stuff", we can hold back nature and the laws of physics... We keep finding out that we cannot do it indefinitely..

If one travels to "primitive" parts of the world, they will find that most structures along the rivers and other waterways, are very inconsequential...almost disposable-looking.. the people tend to live on higher elevations, and use the rivers/waters for transportation, washing, playtime for the kids..but they usually choose NOT to live and build permanent structures that near to them..

That said, I do feel sorry for the people who were snookered into believing that the almighty corps of engineers could keep them safe..

Other than some money and psychological support, there's not a lot anyone can do, until the water recedes.. Here's hoping that someone looks at aerial photographs, and re-draws the flood plains... then restricts RE-building with that new map in mind..
