If we suffered another terror attack TODAY.
If something similar to nine eleven happened this morning, at 9:52 a.m., on this Thursday, January 25th, 2007, what would happen?

1. The Chimp would...
...try to attack an unrelated country.

5. And America will probably fall for it again, or maybe not.
I've heard two scenarios discussed here a lot, we'd either rally behind bush like we did before, or we'd finally have a revolution of some sort.

10. I think just the opposite would happen.
The anger would boil over. People see the war as a waste and a distraction. They've been told "We're fightin'em over there so we don't have to fight'em over here." An attack will be seen as another example of an administration that can't get anything right. People are pretty fed up with the stupidity and incompetence and one more major screw up is going to be a proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back.

3. There'd be airstrikes on Iran before the day was out.
Which Dimson would announce from his hidey-hole, and America would cheer.

I'm feeling VERY pessimistic about it all today....

6. He did say that Iran cannot be allowed to have nukes.
That will be the excuse, and the motivation.

4. Bush would
1) Declare martial law

2) Blame Clinton

3) Have Uncle Dick warm up the B-2's.

4) Run and hide.

5) Piss in his pants.

And not necessarily in that order

7. We'd get the same speedy and efficient response we saw during Huricane Katrina...
followed by the bold leadership displayed when we "retaliated" against a country that had nothing to do with the attack.

8. They'd also take advantage of a major earthquake or tsunami.

Imagine if San Francisco had the big one, our economy might collapse, and we'd be on their own. Or if it hit in the midwest, along the New Madrid faultline, same scenario, we're on our own out here.

9. It won't happen. Here's why:
The administration has made a propaganda case out of how there haven't been any other terror attacks since 9/11 (not true, but that doesn't matter really). If a large-scale terror attack were to occur, then they could never use that claim again, and the only thing that is keeping them in office - the feeling of safety by the average moran - is suddenly gone.

Of course you could argue that an attack could slip through without the government knowing about it, unlike 9/11, but how would that look? All the effort in suspending civil liberties, to no effect...
