What I like most about DU

is how it can provide perspective on an issue--perspective you might not have experienced before and might not have gotten anywhere else.

...and how that can change your mind--the way you talk, the way you think and the way you vote when it comes to that issue.

1. You know. I totally agree.

For me, I was terrified, absolutely terrified of pit bulls until I read some threads about how it wasn't the dog, but the owner and that really did change my mind about the dog and the breed.

I'm still skittish around dogs I don't know, but I don't knee jerk when I read a story about pit bulls anymore.

And, another one for me was the 'Mann Coulter' threads. I never realized that they were hurtful to the transgendered community. I've been accused of 'being manly' in the way I write, maybe because I'm pretty direct, which is sexist I know, but nonetheless.

I used to think the Mann Coulter stuff was harmless. I don't anymore.

DU is fabulous for opening our eyes and letting us see how the people most affected by what we post feel. I love that about DU.
