Since 2006 I've watched a lot of vids of Dem congressional leaders looking stern and noble while putting hard questions to Gonzales and others. I've heard a lot of tough talk about issuing supbeanas to central players of the Bush admin - complete with threats of "possible" arrest if they don't comply, even while everyone already knows they won't comply. As with the latest playacting with Rove.
Since in every one of these cases of suspected (and all but proven already) criminality the evidence leads straight to the top, to Bush, Cheney and the innermost circle of Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Rice, and Rove and on down the list, so every one of these cases leads directly to impeachment if evidence is uncovered leading to a prosecution. So, since Dem congressional leaders have already stated unequivocally that impeachment is off the table, why does the Dem grassroots even follow this playacting of hearings and investigations - as if it were meaningful? Why does the Dem grassroots get fooled every time when Dem leaders state that e.g. Rove "could get arrested" if he doesn't obey their latest supbeana? Then playact at being surprised. Rove and co. have already displayed blatant (and fitting!) contempt for these foolish antics, have already laughed in the face of supbeanas and smirked as they walked away, with implicit approval of the Dem leadership - because the Dem leadership has already told them not to fear prosecution, that it just won't happen.
Why don't Dems hold their own leadership in contempt, for having played this game for 2 years now?
