4. I called my friend there on the 5th...

Since he and his family were out of town when it hit...

I guess one thing with that weather they've been having they have more privileges than we do here in California, is the ability to "casually" light fireworks there when everything is soaked.

I caught him right when a mutual friend of ours was visiting his house and entertaining his kids by lighting off some pretty ambitious rockets... I recall being there in the past when these "events" happened, and given how close it was to his house, I told him that I'm VERY GLAD that our mutual friend wasn't here in California, or he'd be very risky at starting our next firestorm here...

Anyway, sounds like they were having a good time lighting them off then. Was a little jealous of that, given how we have to watch every spark out here now in SoCal!

He said that most of the bridges have reopened now...

Sounds like the library's going to reopen tomorrow...

EPB and Journalism building won't reopen this summer, and Journalism not even until middle of next fall semester.

Sounds like a lot of the Arts campus might temporarily be located in a older Menard's shopping center building.

Sounds like a lot of Univ. of Iowa employees are facing big benefit cuts as the University is trying to cut costs...

Main Library $1 million building damage; $100,000 contents - could have been a whole lot worse.

Still that's an awful lot of damage for U Iowa.

7. Looks like the biggest amount of damage was to the Tech Labs building...

I remember hearing earlier they were very worried about it, since there was so much stuff in there (cutting edge laser research equipment, etc.) that they couldn't move out of it, and it was on the edge of the river banks next to the Student union...
