Iraq:Guess how Long it Takes to Burn $1 Trillion at $100/sec? (Bush History 7/9)

A 'Goldwater conservative' protests Bush values: "There is nothing conservative about preemptive wars or ... condoning torture ... (or) abandoning fiscal responsibility". Also, the outrageous cost of the Iraq War prompts this exercise: How long does it takes to burn $1 Trillion, at $100/second?

1. That's right, the Republican party is not really 'conservative'.
Today's party of Reagan Republicans is dominated by fiscal liberals.

2. Their just not "fiscal liberals" in the sense that they would be spending it on the American People
Nor are they smart about getting that money to be "fiscally liberal."

but DAMN do they have the market cornered in hollow nationalist jingoism!

4. I prefer to think of the Republican Party
as more liars & thieves as opposed to fiscal conservatives. They like to spend (or rather steal) our money on themselves and their pals, but not on the American pubic to whom it belongs.

5. GOP Big Spenders sendng tax dollars to the already rich-OBSCENE!
Good examples of the big spending GOP; the energy bill, billions to the already obscenly weatlhy oil companies. THen there is Medicare Part D- billions to needless middlemen (the well-off private insurance companies) and a prohibition to not allow the gov to get bulk discounts (to benefit the already wealthy big pharma). Luckily, we stopped them from privitizing social security - the GOPs plan to send tax payer money to the wealthy financial industry. THEY ARE ROBBING US TAXPAYERS BLIND and the money is going to THOSE WHO LEAST NEED IT! OBSCENE!

6. The 2001 & 2003 tax cuts for billionaires was and is the biggest waste of all.
Big tax cuts for the wealthy elite with no corresponding spending cuts to pay for them are the most fiscally irresponsible and morally bankrupt measures of my lifetime.

The Republican party is nothing like it was a generation ago. Ike would have seemed a flaming liberal today. About anybody would, compared to these extremists.

7. Yes, Passing on debt to our kids - THE IMMORALITY IS AS CLEAR AS IT IS SHOCKING!
I agree Lasher. Passing on debt to our kids to pay for taxcuts for the country club crowd is immoral. Bush asks the poor and middle class to send their kids off to war, and instead of asking the rich to help pay for the war (the least they could do when people are dying in it) he gives them breaks and passes the bills, with interest, to our kids and grandkids. THE IMMORALITY IS AS CLEAR AS IT IS SHOCKING!

3. Over 300 YEARS?
I was tempted to compute its fuel equivalent, but I realized that environmental considerations would rule it out. (Not to mention the Carbon Footprint!)

8. Yes, Over 300 Years
It would take well over 300 years to burn thru $1 trillion dollars by throwing a $100 dollar bill into the fire every second. Of course, it will take the Bush administration far less time to waste that and more on the Iraq war.
