Get Even for FISA

http://action.firedoglake.com/page/s/getevenforfisa

Big telecom companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are poised to get retro active immunity they want.

But now is no time to sit and mourn that the administration may soon monitor our phone calls on a whim.

It's time to get even.

Vote on your least favorite Blue Dog "Democrat" who played a hand in short selling our right to privacy.

After we determine the worst offender, we'll get be in touch for how we can start to hold him accountable.

Your Vote:

1.) John Barrow (GA-12)

2.) Leonard Boswell (IA-3)

3.) Chris Carney (PA-10)

4.) Brad Ellworth (IN-8)

5.) Zack Space (OH-18)

6.) Heath Shuler (NC-11)

Blue America PAC vs Retroactive Immunity

by Blue America

http://www.actblue.com/page/fisa

Accountability is one of the most important foundations of democracy. It is time we start holding our elected representatives responsible for rubber stamping the most grievous aspects of the Bush Regime’s agenda. Surely the plans for retroactive immunity for Bush cronies inside his regime and for cronies in the telecom corporations who broke the law by spying on American citizens without warrants, is outrageous and needs to be brought before the bar of Justice. All the money raised on this page will go to fund accountability for congress members supporting retroactive immunity and warrantless wiretaps.

1. How to hold them accountable? Fund accountability?
Do they mean primary challengers?

If not, what do they mean?

7. Without a primary challenger... what will the ads do?
I wish I wasn't suspicious that they don't say clearly what they'll do to hold these dems accountable.

9. I guess the point is to shame them.
They ran a newspaper ad against Steny Hoyer.

I don't know if he can feel shame.

14. So you're ok running a negative ad against a democrat....
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 12:58 PM by LynneSin
...who is an incumbant in a seat labeled a toss-up.

That's Chris Carney's seat. Only reason we won it was because the republican incumbant was caught beating his mistress (much to his wife's dismay). The old coot thought he'd still win a re-election because the district is so overwhelmingly republican but ended up losing to Moderate Chris Carney.

PA-10 is rural Pennsylvania where Guns & God rule and voters were willing to vote democrat to get rid of a woman-beating cheater. Carney appealled to PA-10 voters because he was a moderate democrat. So Carney already has an uphill battle but is competitive because he's the incumbant. Any other democrat would lose this district.

I find it utterly stupid to go after a democrat in such a high risk race. I'd rather keep Carney any day of the week knowing the only other option would be a republican.

13. Looks like they don't know what to do....
but they'll collect the money in case they think of something. Maybe put something in the water so a liberal could be elected in a rightwing district.

3. Chris Carney? You'll be giving that seat back to the republicans
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 12:31 PM by LynneSin

Chris only one because he beat out the long-term incumbant representative who happened to be caught beating his mistress (oh and he was a married).

That district is so heavily republican that this is probably one seat that could be a pick-up for the republicans but Chris Carney keeps it competitive because he is a moderate. And I know PA-10 district well - half my relatives live in that district and that district is filled with gun-loving, god-fearing ultra conservatives who might consider voting for Carney again because of Carney's moderate appeal. Put anyone else in that seat and you've given it back to the republicans.

You want to run a liberal in PA-10

8. I can't be bothered by someone's website that takes forever to load
and there are no other suggestions for PA-10.

Run Chris Carney and we have a chance (and a slim one at that) at keeping the seat.

Run someone else and there will be a republican.

All of this is based on the fact that Don Sherwood (mistress beater) decides not to run again. These republicans do have standards you know.

11. does not load
and I mean - if we want to give a seat away to the republicans, well that's just dumb planning.

I hate when these outsiders come in there thinking they know what's best for a district. I'm an outsider there too, but I've spent enough time in that district to know that Carney is the only chance we have of keeping a district that is rated a toss-up. And if Carney wasn't an incumbant it would be a Solid Republican seat.
