ORLANDO, Fla. - Astronaut Bill Oefelein was in orbit aboard the space shuttle in December when he was sent a steamy e-mail from a girlfriend awaiting his return: "First urge will be to rip your clothes off, throw you on the ground and love the hell out of you."...

The e-mails, along with statements taken from Oefelein and Shipman, confirm publicly for the first time that Oefelein had a romantic relationship with Nowak. It lasted two or three years before he broke it off to date Shipman late last year.

Oefelein said he considered Nowak to be one of his best friends at NASA.

"We had a relationship but, you know, never really said the word `girlfriend,'" Oefelein told investigators. "We were somewhat exclusive. Nobody prohibited anything, but I would consider her exclusive for a period of time."...

So basically this guy was doing Nowak first. Then she ditched her husband and 3 kids to run off with him. Then he changed his mind and started doing the other woman. Nowak flipped out and well, there you have it.

In my view, this is all unfortunate. And none of these three seem like anyone we'd want to invite for dinner.

My God but this is over the hill. I thought these people were screened to see if they were normal before they went into this program. They act like pre-high school kids. They all need a Mother to talk to them.

I still feel kinda bad that this obviously VERY sick woman is being mocked in the media like this.

6. On the other hand...

people are sometimes driven to this kind of despair because of the choices they have made. Nowak ditched her family, against her mother's advice, to be with this clown. Then he starts doing another astronaut and expects Nowak to just get over it. Looking at it from Nowak's point of view, she is going to end up with absolutely nothing. If that won't send you over the edge, what will?

The only good guy in this may turn out to be Nowak's mom.
